Hello, Im  Mariea Harrinaraine, I currently serve as the Mitigation and Recovery Manager(ag) at the Civil Defence Commission -Guyana I also hold the responsibility for volunteer coordination at the national level. I have over four (4) years of experience working with volunteers and vulnerable communities across the country, in implementing CBDRM and other DRR related initiatives at the regional, sectorial and community levels. I also support and lead in the coordination of numerous public-private engagements, and partnerships to integrate and implement Disaster Risk Reduction efforts and projects at various levels. I support the National emergency operations center, responders, planners, disaster managers, and governmental and nongovernmental organizations to effectively respond to emergency and disaster events.


I currently hold a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Guyana and has undergone several trainings in the field of Disaster Management and Emergency Response throughout her employment at the Civil Defence Commission.

I have a passion for humanitarian work and Disaster Risk Reduction as such I continue to build my capacity in the field of DRR. I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in Disaster Risk Management and Climate Governance; I aim to use this knowledge to improve my work in DRR with communities and volunteers in Guyana.

I'm Suzane Russell-Dorsett, currently employed as a GIS Specialist at the Bahamas National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). My initial exposure to Disaster Management occurred in response to Hurricane Matthew where I served as an ESF 5. It was then that I realized disaster management was my true calling. Prior to that, I worked in meteorology to create storm surge maps and led a team of analysts at the BNGIS Centre. My educational background includes studying Geography at both the College of the Bahamas and the University of Western Ontario.
Over the years, I have actively participated in numerous collaborative initiatives involving public and private partnerships. These initiatives focus on areas such as climate change, data management, GIS, MET, and the list continues on. The knowledge I have gained from this course is of the utmost importance to my country and our collective efforts to foster resilient communities in the face of an ever-changing environment.
