How was 2025 for you? by Struthers Memorial Church

This verse really spoke to me last year of God being ever present no matter where you are or how difficult life becomes. He is with us in the best and worst of times. Psalm 139:7-8

2025 was a picture painted of blessings in the uncertainty. I learned more than ever to lean into Gods presence and that he holds the unseen of the future for good reason.

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.”

Proverbs 16:3

I am Norma from Cumbernauld. I was brought up in a Christian home with parents who loved the Lord. I always believed in Jesus but didn't want to surrender my life to Him. I was a shy, introverted child who was laughed at at school because of a P3 teacher who made fun of me and called me snail.

Then when I was 11 years old the Lord spoke to me in an audible voice and said "tonight or you die" I surrendered! My father prayed with me and I gave my life to Jesus. He filled me with His peace and joy. At school I became the champion of the underdog and my nickname changed from snail to smiler!

That was 62 years ago! For 62 years the Lord has been faithful. When I have been stupid He has forgiven me. When I have been careless He has protected me. He has been my friend, my leader and my guide. He has brought me through the hard times, comforted me when He took my husband home. Strengthened me when I felt lost. I can say this with assurance, Jesus will never fail and most amazing of all, He loves me!

I want to share about yesterday. During the dedication I was reminded of my own children’s. They are now 16 and 13. I was reminded that God is faithful. It was emotional for me as I am no longer with their dad. But God is all that I need. For them too. I also realised I need to keep dedicating them daily. As it’s easy to try and control everything. God is trustworthy with our hearts and yesterday it was about surrender again and again all throughout my children’s lives.

After a long time in the wilderness the Lord has granted restoration to full fellowship with Him, His Wonderful Son and Blessed Holy Spirit. He has blessed me with His peace, hope and joy. I feel His presence wherever I go. He has made a covenant with me, as l lay my life on the altar as a living sacrifice, so in death, He will raise me again, alive to be with Him.

My Christian journey in 2025 was full of trials and victories but had also been the hardest year of my life. Moving house, becoming a mother, new careers, struggling in my faith and many other things drew me closer to God by Him allowing me to come to a point of complete surrender and helplessness before Him. Through everything He has shown me just how faithful He is.
