When I was in high school, my band director would host chair placement to see how much had improved from the year before. I always used my school issued iPad to read, make notes, etc. on my sheet music and scales. I learned that it was better for me to actually play my scales using my clarinet, rather than attempting to memorize them simply by looking at my iPad.

Recently, I attempted to teach myself a tap number from the Broadway show "Anything Goes." I thought I'd be able to simply watch the video, but I was wrong. I realized that I had to dance along with the video, rather than sitting there and expecting to know the steps.

When I first started my job at Disney World this past semester, I was happy to find out that I was able to build on my previous knowledge of photography. For example, I was able to add to my knowledge of resetting my camera. Additionally, I was also able to learn how the company-issued camera differed from my personal camera.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, when my best friend invited me over to play her Nintendo Switch, I thought I would know what to do since I've had my Nintendo Wii for about ten years. Despite my previous knowledge of the Wii, I realized that the Switch was an entirely different ballpark. She tried to teach me simple things (such as using the controller), but I even struggled with that.

In some of my classes, we use Kahoot as a way to review for a test. The teacher would project what question we had to answer on the board, and we would use our iPads to respond (by clicking the answer that we believed was right). In government class my senior year, I worked with a partner during our exam review--when I didn't know the answer to a question, they knew the answer.

In my classes, both high school and college, I have been assigned to do group projects that involve technology. I had one project that had to be completed outside of class. One of my classmates didn't have the best access to internet at home, so we met earlier to help them the assignment. Although we were able to complete our assignment, I could see this having negative effects in other situations.

Last semester, I was required to watch a short series on the history of race in America. After watching each episode, we were required to write a short reflection on what we gathered from the episode. I believe that this was extremely beneficial because not only was the subject matter was applicable to real life, but I was also able to analyze each episode in depth.

When I was in high school, I had a teacher that often had to miss class since she had a newborn baby. Eventually, we got to the point where she would record herself teaching a lesson and send it to us during or before class. We were able to see her get the correct answer, but without her being in the classroom, we were unable to ask questions and receive immediate feedback.

This past fall semester, I participated in an exchange program in Montclair, New Jersey. My goal was always to get to wherever I was going in the most efficient way possible whenever I went into New York City, so I normally used to subway. I think that this was beneficial because I figured out how to get everywhere thanks to the Maps app on my phone--along with the fact that I had a goal.

My high school had a competition every year in which every student had to memorize a poem and recite it in front of their class. We were allowed to choose our own poem that we wanted to recite using our iPads. Even though there was a clear and concise goal, I would consider this to be not as beneficial to me because I struggled to memorize words off or a screen.
