Due to how close Brazil is to the equator its daylight hours stay the same all year. This is beneficial to the sea life and area because it keeps very consistent and helps plant life and vegetation to thrive. This then attracts other fish and helps contribute to the ecosystem.

The water temperature in Brazil stays very warm all year. It stays at a constant 83F until June and July when it reaches up to 84F. Due to the very consistent water temps it would have made life for the early settlers much easier because the fish could stay all year and they would be able to catch fish much easier. The warm water also allows for plant and ecosystem life to thrive.

The water in Belem is very fresh, with the port usually staying on average at 1.45ppt when normal ocean water is much much higher. This fresh water is a direct result of the ports proximity to the amazon river. This river supplies the port with high amounts of fresh water. This would have drastically changed the ecosystem and life in the water.
