“The Looking Glass” short story had a major theme of worrying about your future can be a paralyzing force . This short story expresses this theme because the woman looking into the looking glass was worried about her future husband. The stress of finding the perfect guy consumed her and she had a dream about her perfect husband getting sick. The thoughts she was having of her future husband was paralyzing her and just made her worry more and more. 

In the video “Just Say Yes” there is a husband and wife who think they know each other so well. But we never completely know someone - even in a long-term relationship. The wife brings up an interesting topic that quickly takes a turn for the worse and begins this horrible argument between the husband and wife. They both have different views on this argument and they learn things about each other they never knew.

In my book “A Good Girls Guide To Murder”, by Holly Jackson, the main character is trying to prove that there was a mistake in a case that she feels she has a personal relationship to. She meets the brother of one of the victims and they are working together to find the right murder. They are currently trying to keep their relationship professional, but there are situations that happen that show that they think of each other as more than friends. 

When considering these three works: “The Looking Glass”, “Just Say Yes”, and “A Good Girls Guide To Murder”, it is clear that people aren’t always what they seem in the beginning. 

Pip really starts to question what she is doing and who she is when her dog goes missing and she finds out that the killer has him. She starts doubting her ability to handle stress and thinks she isn’t cut out to be doing this. To describe the feeling of what Pip was going through the author expresses “Pip’s heart drummed beneath her skin.” and “‘No,’ she said, ‘we’re all fine. Everything’s fine.’” These give you really good indications that Pip is scared. It even comes to her talking to Ravi about the fact that she doesn’t want to continue her investigation on his brother because she doesn’t want anyone to get hurt. Pip starts doubting her abilities to go through with this case and thinks she’s just going to give up. But after Ravi talks to her a little bit they start back up the investigation and try to fit more of the puzzle pieces together. 

I can very much relate to Pip because sometimes I will get so invested in something and get so deep in it and then one thing happens that I don’t think I can handle and I just want to scrap everything. One example of this is when I was planning this big project for my Drama club that so many people were counting on me to finger out and make it work. I was having such a hard time trying to make the project work that I had to just stop and come back to it later because I didn’t think I could do it. When my director came and asked me if I had figured it out yet I had to say no because in my mind there was no way of doing it. That's when I realized that there was another way of looking at this project to finish it. In the end I came up with something that looked even better than what I had created on paper in the first place. Both Pip and me doubted ourselves and thought that we didn’t have what it took to finish the project, but in the end we both needed someone to help us see that we could do it if we just looked at it a little differently.
