1. This is the only picture that I have of my grandma, she used to visit me when I was a kid but I only saw her once a year and that was back in my homeland.
4. I chose those dice to resemble Lunar New Year or sometimes regarded to as the time that people gamble to take advantage of good fortune. Anyway, each time Lunar New Year comes, my grandma sent me multiple bags of American candies to Vietnam(this happened while I still was in Vietnam). My favorite out of them are the Fruit By The Foot, and M&ms.
2. I included seashells because that is her favorite place to live in, she often talks about visiting Vietnam when I was a kid, specifically Nha Trang, Vietnam. Why beach in Vietnam? because beaches there are one of the warmest place to swim in, in the world.
3. This is a funny one, my nickname that my family call me is Ka, or sometimes Kaka as a joke. But my grandma always refer to me as "Coca Cola" since I presumed it rhymed with my name and also her favorite sugary drink.
6. She was born in Juarez,Zacatecas and met my great grandfather who was from Arizona and brought my great grandmother to the US April 14,1965. she passed away in 2018 at the age of 98 and was a huge impact in my life. My family has a long line of strong woman and she was one to teach us how to be one.  On the left side you see a red with black stripped head tie that my great grandmother would wear while she worked in the onion factory. On top of the head band you see a rosary, on bad days or days we felt down, she would bless us and pray to us to have strength and clearing all negative energy. The picture is of her the year she passed along side myself and my baby sister who is the baby of the family. This picture means a lot to me because I’m grateful to show the different generations. On top of the picture is a necklace with rosemary, my great grandmother wore that every day and once my grandfather had to leave for work for 4 years, she took it off and said it would protect him, he took care of it, and gave it back all it one piece. It’s a moving box that I painted yellow. This may seem plain to the average person but to me it has a lot of meaning. It is based off of my current favorite show, Move to Heaven. It is about a moving company for the dead (death cleaners essentially) and the yellow box is a key point in the show. The box is always delivered to the loved ones of the deceased and in the box are items that represent the person who passed. This show means a lot to me as it came out around the time I was still trying to process my grandmother’s passing and it just really is the perfect show for dealing with death. Anyways, when we first started talking about this project in class, I knew that I had to use this box as my container because of the way that it correlated with this assignment.

So the little jar in the blue divider thing has holy water, then is a bracelet that I received from my grandmother as a child. The bracelet is something that she knitted. Then there is a tiny bird. I included it because it is an inside joke, she’d always pronounce bird in Spanish as “parajito” when it was supposed to be “pajarito” and I remember I’d get so confused, angry even, and she would laugh so much at my reaction. I’m pretty sure she did it as a joke but I’m also not too sure because whenever she’d ask about my pet birds, she’d still pronounce it as “parajito”. Then there is a knitting needle, an El Chavo pen (El Chavo is one of her favorite shows of all time), a pocket bible, and a rosary that I received from her. The paper on the bottom is a birthday card that I received from her (I scanned and reprinted it) and since I was unsure if the letter was supposed to be from the subject, I also wrote her a letter. The envelope there is a letter that I wrote to her. After permanently leaving his hometown, he worked really hard to get to where he wanted to be, taking on two jobs and managing a family as soon as he met and married my grandma a year later. I really admire his bravery and work ethic. For this project, I wanted to involve aspects of Italy and the transfer over to America. I made sure to use pictures of things in his native language (the newspaper, the passport, the quote) because there was a big language barrier when he came here since all he had ever known was Italian. I also wanted to add a coin and a clock/watch since when he came here, all he had was the clothes on his back and a bit of change. The eyes are meant to represent a sort of search for somewhere to belong and a brighter future while the suitcases and plane of course is moving and leaving it all behind. I decided I'd add a little color and something fun with the food, so I asked my parents what their favorite foods were. I came back with mole for my mom, and prime ribs with potatoes and vegetables for my dad. Since the last update, I’ve added a handwritten note that surprised me because it was like writing in my diary. I also added a sketch of some fruit because eating fruit with someone you love turn I to meaningful conversation(so it’s happen to me). I added a rose because my great grandmother loved growing any kind of flowers but especially roses in her front yard, she’s turned all of us women to be a green thumb.
