1. Let's establish the summer camp's general and specific objectives, so that we could work around the activities in line with the these objectives.

2. Structured Learning Activities in a form of games (in the classroom setting) are effective for kids to learn while they have fun at the same time. For example: Guess-the-Picture ( I did this in class before, closely similar to a Charades game), Pictionary, Scavenger Hunt (we could have this outdoors), etc.

3. Student Clubs: May be handled by a teacher choosing his/her own field of interest or area of specialization which is still grouped according to-- Juniors and Seniors.
Examples are: The Science Wiz Club, The Music Circle, The Arts & Crafts Clique, The Dance Steppers, The Sports Buddies, The Little Chefs Club. I just thought these names are cool =)...but the point is, the Student Club is a one-hour session per day where students get to choose (during the preliminary interview before the start of the camp) which club they want to belong to, depending upon their interests, talents or skills. There is a maximum number of 13 students per club. They will be in that club for the entire duration of the camp, where they will have activities/sessions every day.

Then, we could have an End-of-Week session where each club will get to showcase their "major activity" (this is optional).

Each teacher must be able to submit an Activity Plan (goals & objectives, list of activities/materials), similar to a course description, according to the club that he/she will handle.

For example, for the Little Chefs Club-- the teacher can design different simple recipes that are fun to do, every session with the kids. Just an idea. =)

I would like to see specific areas of STEM learning being focused on by specific teachers

This would involve three teachers per section and each teacher producing class content in their chosen area for the kids. We would move the kids from room to room and constantly keep them engaged.

S – Science (X3)

T – Technology (X3)

E – Engineering (X3)

M – Maths (X3)

Also I would like to see an art section and have teachers who have specific skills for the play coach kids on stage presence and performance skills.

The deans idea of shortening the day is possible if we incorporate these as part of the camp and also bringing kids to do PE in the middle of the day only burns out the kids and they come back to the class tired in the evening.

I agree with a lot of the ideas already suggested. In particular, I definitely think we need to move away from using so many books and look more at learning through projects and games. Also, I think we should focus more on speaking English as opposed to reading and completing workbooks. I think it works well for students to be taught by each teacher at some point, it keeps it more interesting for both parties but it would be nice to do more fun activities with our 'home' class instead of just studying using the books and rehearsing for the song/play. I like the idea of the student clubs that Uzzel suggested, this also could be done instead of Kid's Uni or the World Tour. Other ideas along this line could be a camp newspaper, one for juniors and one for seniors, and a camp tv show where each class presents a short video about their class and uploads it to youtube (there could be a screening of the videos instead of human bingo maybe).

Something else that we talked about with the Dean was the idea that the kid's weekend activities should be integrated somehow into their weekly classes; for example, if they watch a movie on Saturday then in class we all discuss it on Monday - learn how to talk about characters, setting, context etc and maybe write up a review.
