Targeted FB Ad. I have researched and currently use a meal delivery service. Somehow, FB knows this and it thinks I need ads for other ones.

Last year my husband built a computer himself and ordered a lot of computer parts. All of the sudden I got advertisement from at least five different food box services blue apron, sun boxes you name it, in my mail. Obviously computer geeks can't cook.

My partner used to have Siri turned on on his computer. Even if he wasn't using it and wasn't searching for something, ads would pop up a few hours later after simply from discussing the product with me. This happened a few times before he decided to turn it off.

I never ever use Facebook except for practical stuff and I don't follow any account except some friends. And yet when I opened my feed, every single adds I encounteted was movies/series related. It knows I am very interested by this subject on other medias despite the fact that I never did anything related to it on Facebook.

Being a huge fan of the yankees I have been non stop watching games whether at a friends house or at my own, but I do not have ESPN or any other alternatives to watch the game besides on TV. Since I have been talking about them non-stop, there have been multiple ads on my phone for subscriptions to ESPN, Fubu TV, Max, and so many more.

I was scrolling through instagram and came across this add that shows a makeup brand that I have ordered from before. I do not follow this account but somehow it still pops up on my instagram feed to remind me of it. This persuades me to buy more of these products. Also people I follow have liked this post making me more likely to buy it seeing that they like it too.

I don't follow this specific brand, however I have been encountering many ads from their website recently. When I see these advertisements I do tend to click on them to see what they have to offer on their websites. Because of my past searches looking at dresses, I can see why this ad would be targeted towards me.

Above is pictured an ad that appeared on my instagram page this afternoon. Yesterday I had spent some time searching for sweaters to buy for the upcoming colder months. I have never shopped at this website before and it is very interesting to see that the phone is aware that I was looking at sweaters previously and points this propaganda to instagram so I may click on it and possibly order something from the website.

Personalized persuasion is something I often notice. Every time I search up a product or look into something online, I immediately begin to begin seeings ads on my social media. I was looking for a new phone case recently and now have been receiving many ads for phone cases. This is one of the many times I have noticed it. Another example of this was last week my friend was showing me what she wants for her birthday and showed me a sweatshirt that she wants. The next day, I was getting ads for this sweatshirt yet we only spoke about it through text messages. Although this may have been a coincidence it made me think about how companies may be able to see even text messages.

Therefore, coming across a post like this is certainly not a coincidence. It has to do with the Instagram algorithm.

I have personalized advertisements turned off everywhere. No matter what platform or device I have them off, and when an ad plays I turn the volume off and ignore it or see it on something like Instagram, I scroll right by. So I had to go looking for this, didn't take long, maybe two minutes? I believe that this is a form of personalized persuasion because when I am on Instagram I usually only look at car posts and here is an ad for a car mod, an air intake. So this is either personalized for the types of posts I'm looking at or because of the posts I make.

Almost every time I turn to youtube for further explanations in my classes, typically math or biology, I will receive an advertisement that corresponds with some learning platform. Just now, when I searched for help with taking an integral, a Grammarly ad popped up. Whenever I watch an Organic Chemistry Tutor video, I will get these advertisements before and during the videos. Often, I hear a math learning platform that asks "Are you struggling in your math courses?". I find it comical how I typically respond with "Yes", because it seems as though the computer knows me so well. In reality, this is personalized persuasion that is so in tune with my search engine.
