Oligarchy is a government in which only a few people have power.  The Aristocrats were the richest men in town and they ran the city's economy. They dominated Athenian society and served as it's generals and judges. In 600 BC a group of rebels tried to overthrow the aristocrats and they failed, so possibly due to that Draco created a new set of laws for Athens. These laws was very harsh. For this reason all free men living in Athens became citizens(people who had the right to participate in government). Tyrants had strong armies so it caused them to stay in power and plus the people who supported them. Pisistratus was better than Draco and very good person. He brought peace and prosperity to the city, he began new policies meant to unify the city, and created new festivals and built temples and monuments. During his rule many improvements were made in Athens. After Pisistratus died his son took over as tyrant. As his son was supposed to follow his dad steps he did a pore job. Many aristocrats lost power and the Athens were attacked.
