         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Length: </strong>2-3 Weeks<br><br><strong>Grade Level: </strong>3rd Grade<br><br><strong>Overall Unit Objectives:</strong></div><ul><li>SWBAT <strong>identify</strong> and <strong>compare </strong>different types of forces (balanced and unbalanced).&nbsp;</li><li>SWBAT see different types of forces (Friction, Gravity, &amp; Motion.) of an object and <strong>understand</strong> its motion and force.</li><li>SWBAT<strong> conduc</strong>t an investigation to see the motion of an object. SWBAT compare old twirly bird to new twirly bird.</li><li>SWBAT <strong>design</strong> and <strong>Build</strong> a car and recognize all the different types of forces occurring together. (Gravity, friction, motion, etc.).</li></ul><div><br><strong>Unit Standards:</strong></div><ul><li><strong>SCIENCE:</strong></li><li>3-PS2-1. Plan and conduct an investigation to provide evidence of the effects of balanced and unbalanced forces on the motion of an object.&nbsp;</li><li>3-PS2-2. Make observations and/or measurements of an object’s motion to provide evidence that a pattern can be used to predict future motion.</li><li>&nbsp;3-5-ETS1-1. Define a simple design problem reflecting a need or a want that includes specified criteria for success and constraints on materials, time, or cost.&nbsp;</li><li>&nbsp;3-5-ETS1-2. Generate and compare multiple possible solutions to a problem based on how well each is likely to meet the criteria and constraints of the problem.&nbsp;</li><li>3-5-ETS1-3. Go Outside and have the kids play Tug-a-war. Explain to them that if they are just holding it straight without pulling it is balanced.&nbsp;<br><br>4. Then have kids pull and do Tug-a-war (rope will have a flag on it and it will simply have to cross the line. This is so no one will physically fall to the ground).<br>After that, explain how that is unbalanced because someone is pulling it the forces were not matched.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>**** <strong>Standards are Listed Above</strong>.<br><strong>Supplies:</strong></div><ul><li>One Raw Egg (Do this in Groups of 3-4)</li><li>cardboard <strong>(Use ruler and measure how much you want)</strong></li><li>newspaper</li><li>old boxes</li><li>paper</li><li>tape, glue, rubberbands</li><li>popsicle sticks</li><li>baggies</li><li>straws</li><li>feathers</li><li>cottonballs</li><li>Empty Milk Jug</li><li>Bubble Wrap</li></ul><div><strong>Goal: </strong>Pretend your egg is Humpty Dumpty.<strong> </strong>Students will build a contraption that safely gets Humpty Dumpty aka a raw egg to the ground after being dropped from a specified height.<br><br>STEPS:</div><ul><li>Find Where we will drop it. Hopefully the school janitor will want to get involved and drop them all from the roof.</li><li>Must Use material listed above</li><li>The contraption must be constructed on top of the table or other flat surface)</li><li>Your goal is to safely get your raw egg to the ground</li><li>Your raw egg must be kept inside the contraption without cracking or breaking.</li><li>There are many Different ways to complete this challenge.
