The park, now declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco, stretches for 2085 km2, organized in the archaeological areas of Alto del Aguacate, Alto de San Andrés, Alto de Segovia, Alto del Duende and Tablón.

Recognized as a Biosphere Reserve by Unesco, it captivates by its unique landscapes, among mangrove forests, palm trees, coral reefs and marine prairies that envelop beaches of white sand, considered among the most beautiful in America. Ecosystems that range from coral reefs to tropical rainforest, build the island's paradisiacal landscapes, among which dolphins, sharks, sea lions and the surprising migrations of humpback whales approach the coast from July to November to giving birth. White sand beaches immersed among uninhabited landscapes, are other attractions, ideal places for snorkeling and diving, diving between the most diverse coral reef of the Eastern Tropical Pacific.

From the city it is possible to embark on the Amazon River, entering the dense rainforest, a fascinating crossing that crosses the most mega diverse area of the world. Fascinating stops on this route are the Amacayacu Natural National Park, with its giant aquatic plants that reach up to two meters in diameter or Lake Tarapoto, home to the unique pink freshwater dolphins.
