Thomas More was the Lord chancellor for King Henry VIII during the Renaissance (Sheldon). He is best know for his book Utopia which was a bestseller in Europe. The book described a world where there was no greed and violence. In the book, it showed More's observations about the King's policies that humanists did not agree with and his thoughts on politics (Gould). Him and his fellow scholar Desiderius Erasmus thought that their humanist beliefs, including classical Greek philosophy, religious tolerance, and optimism should reflect in the government (Stockdale). More was recognized as a churchman and a Renaissance man whose ideals changed history (Sheldon).
