The film stars Sergeant John McLoughlin (Nicolas Cage) and William J. Jimeno (Michael Peña). They were assigned to New York City's Port Authority whenever they received an emergency call. They tried to evacuate everyone out of the World Trade Center before it fell. They ended up being two of the last people to be found alive after the Trade Center had collapsed. They showed how during this tragedy the city and the nation came together to help each other on one of the most tragic days.
