Growing Tree

The tree symbolizes growth. A tree starts as a small seed and then grows a trunk, many branches, and many leaves. People who are not free strive for freedom. They want to be able to control their own life. Once people finally reach freedom, they grow as a person. They have to be able to take care of themselves. That can include getting their own food, making their own shelter, and finding their own water. Once Huck escapes from his father, he has to be able to survive without an adult. That causes him to grow and become independent. When given responsibility, people must grow and mature to fill the role that they need to play.

The Bald Eagle is a symbol for America, which represents freedom and new opportunities. Eagles get to fly anywhere they want to and at any moment in time that they want to. They are free. When people come to America, they get to control what they are going to do with their life. They get to plan their future. They have almost have the same freedoms as the eagle. They get to chose where they want to go. Huck wanted away from his father, so he escaped and is now free. He can go anywhere he wants now because he has nothing holding him back.

The Mississippi River also symbolizes freedom. It is a path that you can take to freedom. With freedom you can start a new life and leave behind your past. You can start on a new path that will lead to you doing what you love the most, as long as you work hard and are dedicated. The path may be long like the Mississippi River, but eventually you be free and will find your happy ending. Jim escaped and is now taking his path to freedom. This connects to society today because people are willing to take the long road to freedom in hopes of there being something better on the other side.

The slave auction shows slaves that want to be free. It shows how wrong it looks for people to be selling other people just like them. People are not meant to be sold as if they were an item. This picture makes people want to help the slaves in anyway that they can because they feel bad for them. It makes them want to help the slaves get their freedom that they rightfully deserve. The slaves and they buyers are both just people. One is not better than the other. This connects to society today, because even today people still want to help other people get their freedom back.

Footsteps

Footsteps symbolize a path. Path can go in any direction. They can move forward in small steps or big steps, and they can even head backwards toward the way they came from. The point is, the person gets to choose the path. Here in America, people get to choose their own path. They get to choose what they want to do with their life, and the path they want to take to get there. For example, Jim did not want to be a slave anymore. He escaped and now gets to choose what he wants to do with his future. This connects to society today because people still get to choose their future and their path.
