Thought Police
The censorship is extreme in 1984. They had under cover people and even children around the country watching and spying on the citizens. They infiltrated the people's groups and seek out the rebellious party members. Today censorship and spying is everywhere. You can't even go on social media like face book or twitter without being spied on. The NSA spied on thousands of e-mails, phone calls and text of normal Americans. There are many social groups coming together and fighting for their freedom of speech. Although our government is controlling it does not "enjoy" complete and total entrance into our thoughts and actions like 1984. Big Brother enjoyed watching and tormenting it's citizens. Today's technology is also not as developed as in 1984. In 1984 they had telescreens that helped them watch the people. We don't have that ability.

Brainwash/Oblivion
A huge part of Big Brother's system of control is though the act of brainwashing the people. The brainwashing makes them oblivious and dumb; making them believe everything that comes from the source (Big Brother and the rest of government). Throughout the book, it is obvious to see this in the people; they are stupid from being brainwashed their whole life. Winston is a perfect example of brainwash working to make someone oblivious. Winston is rebellious his entire life, but once he gets caught, he is taken to he prison and then is sent to room 101 to be punished. There, is where is tortured over and over until he converts to Big Brother. Before the torture, Winston hated big brother, but now he loves him. He is now apart of the proles due to his conversion to following other instead of rebelling. For example, during the campaign, everyone who followed, believed Trump for everything he said he would be doing if he became president. Lots of people ignored the inappropriate and disrespectful things he said about certain groups he didn't like, but some of the people are too oblivious and ignorant to care because they support him no matter what. Just like in 1984, where the citizens follow Big Brother, they believe everything he says and follows him on everything.

The Big Brother loves have control over the people. There are always people undercover, the adults and even the kids are undercover. You can not trust anyone around you, your best friend could be your worst enemy in 1984. They are watching how you do things and what you say and how you put what you say in to context. Censorship is everywhere, no-one can keep a secret and people are always spying. This reminds me of what is going on in this world right now. You can put your account as private but do you really believe that it is private. Nothing is ever private, you always have to beware of what you put on the internet, anything can get out. They say we have freedom of speech but do we really. We have to watch what we say and watch what context we say something in. They have the ability to watch what we do and how we do things. There are rules that we have to follow no matter what. We have people watching to see if we follow theses rules that are in set. You always have to watch where you are and if your at the wrong place you will get in trouble. In 1984 they are always watching you have to be super careful.

Pick a part of power or control that big brother shows in demonstrating over it’s people throughout this book, and compare it to that of a real instance in society today that correlates with politics. Go look at news headlines, and whether foreign or domestic, compare it to something that is going on in the world today. Compare them. Are they similar or different? What do you think of the similarities or differences as a citizen in this country? How does it make you feel?

Torture

There was a part in the book where Winston had thought that the missiles that randomly attacked the proles was probably a missile from the inner party meant to simulate an attack from Eastasia. However the missile was probably to instill fear and make sure that the proles remain dependent on the party and don't think to highly of themselves that they don't need protection still. The real life comparison would be like the ISIS killing their own people in the same country or even when a country's dictator would randomly kill any of the citizens that weren't loyal or faithful to the government itself. In 1974 the president of Ethiopia killed many of his own people in what was called the red terror campaign. Also the most relatable situation to real life was when Kim IL- Sung had declared purges to scary his own citizens into believing what the government had to say. I would say that it's pretty evil to turn on your own citizens and kill them for no reason. It's cruel and doesn't help the country in any way.

In the book Big Brother showed many ways and examples of how they will always be on the inside. The one that stook out to me the most was when the missiles were sent to make people think that Eastasia was attacking. This relates to the real world because I think there has been many things that have happened just so countries start wars. Maybe the enemies weren't actually the ones doing the bombings at all it could just be the governments trying to strike fear into the citizens so they make quick actions for what the gov. wants. One thing that we can relate this to is terrorism. On the news there is always stories of bombings and killings done by terrorists. Not that I think they didn't do it. But you would think they would know not to mess with big strong countries like America. But what if some of these didn't actually happen and an attack was planned by our own gov. just to get the country to agree that we should bomb them. These examples are pretty similar to what happened in the book 1984 the missiles were sent not to make people strike back, but to show where the power stands. This just makes me feel like our world is dumb, and I absolutely don't believe that our government is trustworthy. Especially nowadays.
