first lecture and computer practical was interesting. it was different to what i was expecting but i really enjoyed it. I need to come up with 80 promo video ideas, which throughout the class i did struggle with but some of my ideas i am considering using for my final promotion video!

MARINE POLLUTION

Marine pollution is a serious problem that the world is dealing with but this needs to be promoted more. Thats why for my promotion video i have decided to promote marine pollution as i feel very strongly about it! For this topic i feel as if it can be pointed at any age audience as it can educate the younger generation so then they can begin to make a difference. But it can also be aimed at an older audience as the can donate to charities.

After attending week twos lecture and hearing about how choosing a topic that you are interested in is important to create a promotion video that the audience can have an emotional connection, whether that is happy, sad, angry/disgusted, afraid/surprised. i am aiming for the audience to feel, sad for the wildlife, disgusted with the way that we are treating our environment and guilty for how we have come to this point.

Every year millions of marine life, including, turtles, seals, birds and whales are being killed by fishing gear (nets, lines, and traps). A massive 640,000 tonnes of fishing gear is just left in our oceans. (World animal protection, 2014)

This source was based from an experiment that was conducted in the Australian waters. This is extremely helpful for my promo video as it is information from Australia and has been proven through an experiment. There are important statistics that are stated in this article including the global production of plastic has exponentially grown from 1,700,000 tonnes in 1950 to 280,000,000 tonnes in 2011. Australia specifically has used 1,433,046 tonnes of plastic from 2010-2011, and only 20% of that was recycled. This article contained very relevant information that will come in handy when conducting my promo video.

This promotion video is a helpful example as it uses young children's perspectives on the ocean pollution. this is powerful as they are the future, they are asking for help to save the world they have to live in without even saying it. (McCauley, D 2016)

This source provided relevant information towards ocean pollution included the percentage of the different types of pollution that is put into the oceans, as referred to in the diagram below. Another important fact that Clark states is that it can take up to 450 years for the plastics to be degraded therefore is the main material that is killing the life of the ocean. The book also gives an overview about what ocean pollution is, and that it is harmful to our ecosystem. The information from this book is helpful to making my promo video as it helps me to understand the pollution and what exactly is being polluted into our oceans.

Darraik’s article on “the pollution of the marine environment by plastic debris” was a very helpful article. It explained what in fact plastic debris is and how they are affecting our environment. He stated that plastics are used in everyday life because of their lightweight, strong, durable and cheap, characteristics. This is why the plastic pollution is increasing in our oceans and are serious hazards to the environment. He also shared statistics about the species world-wide that are being affected by plastic pollution. This is helpful for creating my promo video as it provides statistics and relevant information towards making people choose to stop using plastics.

TREATMENT:

The film starts with a still shot where waves are hitting the rocks, with a rhetorical question presented in text over the screen. It will then transition into a shot of following somebody’s feet walking through rubbish on the beach, at this point a voice over will start, giving facts and information about ocean pollution. The lighting between the scenes will differ, the shot of the waves will be brighter and blue, whereas the rubbish on the beach will be edited to be darker.

After the darker scene of all the rubbish on the beach, there is then a still shot of fish swimming around, which is followed by a scene of more rubbish floating in the water. A shot of many hands holding small marine life including star fish. It will end with the camera panning acriss the beach, with the message presented across the screen which will also be read out in the voice over.

Throughout the video there will be slow music played in the background to give the video a flow, this music will be inspiring but dramatic. Most of the lighting throughout the video will be natural light but slightly edited to be darker, to represent the dark times of the ocean.

For video is going to be targeted at people aged 17 and over, as they are the ones that can start making a difference in saving the oceans. The older generation can donate and change from using plastic bags for lunches to reusable containers. The younger generation can start the change the way they life now and what they use to help the environment in the future. I am aiming to set the tone of emotional, so then the audience has sympathy for the marine life. I also want to make the audience feel guilty for letting the oceans get this bad, so therefore they will make a change that will positively impact the ocean, environment, themselves and our future. Using these tones I hope to get the audience on the same side as i am, so then they make a change weather that is cutting out plastic from their everyday lives, of finding a organisation to donate to.

I brainstormed many options for my message from simple 'SAVE OUR SEAS!' to 'Don't be apart of the pollution be part of the solution'. Personally my favourite quotes are 'the longer we wait the worse it gets!' and the simple 'SAVE OUR SEAS!'. Both are powerful messages that will make my message strong.
