The killer is unknown at this time. Four of his friends who are unnamed were present at the time of crime. The victim was found a couple feet away from his boots, shot by a rifle. The rifle was later found in a pile of guns when police entered the crime scene. The four suspects were very panicked when police entered the crime scene. The rifle that the victim that was shot with was his gun, it was a Remington. How are they reacting? -They are panicked and trying to figure out who did it. 
What are they thinking? The killer/ narrator was trying not to get caught and thinking of ways how to do that.  
What information is NOT present in these pages that we really need to know? -The names of the group of peoples. 
What minor details may be significant later on in the story.  How close the shot was in order to make Grant fall out of his shoes. The fact that they all put their guns down.
