This perhaps widens the north-south divide in Britain, relating the HS2. These rises in tickets prices, which were already quite high, mean less people can afford to travel between the north and south, perhaps people will have to leave jobs. A good point Matt - good to see you commenting.

This shows the conflicts between employers and employees. If employers were forced to pay extra during holiday's due to some employees working overtime, it would make employers limit the amount of overtime work that can be done. On the other hand it allows employees who work hard to benefit from it leading to higher motivation etc...

China's inflation has slowed down growth of 7.3% whereas inflation has increased to 1.5%.

Senior figures from the world of sport and entertainment have issued a call for new controls on websites selling event tickets.

They want resale websites to be required to publish the names of ticket sellers and the tickets' face value.

A good post Ollie - do you think this backs up what we said in class that the GDP growth is being fuelled by the public sector rather than the private sector?

Growth in vehicle sales in the world's largest car market, China, halved last year as the country's economic expansion slowed.

The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) said that sales rose by 6.9% in 2014, compared with growth of 13.9% a year earlier.

To comment it is evidence that the country's economic growth has slowed down but is however still high compared to other economies.

Inflation falls to 0.5% in December, once again a result of the large drop in oil prices. This is now the lowest inflation has been since May 2000. Inflation is now way below the target of 2%

Good news, unemployment has fallen again by 58,000 to 1.91 million (5.8%) the lowest in 6 years and a sign of an improving economy.

The economy grew a seasonally adjusted 0.4% in the October to December period from the previous quarter when growth hit 0.9%.

Fourth quarter growth of 2.7% from a year ago also missed market forecasts.

The UK economy saw its highest growth last year at 2.6%. This is the highest growth since 2007 and shows that our economy is actually doing pretty well, and in some cases, better than the rest of Europe. The growth shown is 0.9% higher than in 2013, so hopefully 2015 will expand our economy even more.

Government is advised to rise the minimum wage by 3%. Meaning for over 21s, the minimum wage would be £6.70 and £3.87 for 16 - 18 year olds. Still a low amount but would worth £416 to over 21 full time workers. This rise would be above the current inflation rate.

Brazil has raised its interest rates to the highest in 6 years, at 12.5%. This is to try an hold back its inflation, which in February was at 7.4%, 0.9% above the government target. Economists now predict the Brazilian economy will contract by 0.5%.

Economic Growth in the US has also slowed down considerably to 0.2%. Similar to the UKs 0.3% figure in the first quarter of 2015. Slower growth has been put down to less construction and exports.

The report said faster growth would see inflation rise and unemployment fall.
