How does a child genius relate to his/her peers

I feel like they have a difficulty relating to peers. The story of the boy being not only talented but nice makes me think maybe he was a "doormat" for others. And because he is more mature then those his age, and would not be going through the same experiences as his peers, so he would have trouble relating to them, therefore he could have few friends and feel alone.

Personally I believe it is nature. For example I am extremely bad at math and have had tutors but I still struggle in the subject. Due to this I believe some people such as Branden are born with extreme academic skill.
