International Women’s Day: a symbol of women’s past and future

The International Women’s Day is an annual celebration that is focused on female support and importance. This day became international and world spread in 1977, after its promotion by the United Nations. It is celebrated on 8th March, date which was chosen after a Russian movement about women’s rights.

Sure enough, International Women’s Day should not be abolished for some valid reasons such as the situation of inequality still present nowadays, to keep the memory of women’s past, and to encourage future generations.

Firstly, we should keep celebrating because there are still many episodes of violence against women like ratings, domestic assaults or even femicide. This means that there’s still no equity in multiple fields.

Secondly, this day should be interpreted as a reminder: the celebration helps us to reflect on women’s past. Women fought for their rights, and they still do. Lots of women sacrificed their own lives to achieve their goals of freedom and equality.

International Women’s Day represents a lesson for the young generations: it is an encouragement to motivate adolescents to change the situation, to improve it, to do something rather than staying silent.

Sure enough, someone may say that the day isn’t worth celebrating anymore, as it is just a useless celebration which underlines gender differences and stereotypes, but this is a lot more.

To sum up, we should keep alive the celebration of this International Day because it represents a symbol of women’s past and, at the same time, an encouragement for women’s future.

Lucia

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

Let’s celebrate to make the world a better place!

The International Women’s Day IWD is a global event celebrated every 8th March, and it was established in 1910 during the International Women’s Conference with the aim of honouring women, recognizing their progress, fighting for their rights and achieving gender equity. This day must be celebrated for various reasons, as its purpose is to remember, encourage and continue the fight against issues that are still present today.

To begin with, this day is a reminder of the past and of the achievements of women in the past and this has been one of the main reasons why this day was established.

Sure enough this day is an opportunity to continue to foster the fight for women’s rights. Not by chance the 8th March is also the International Day for Women’s Rights.

Moreover, so far, women have been the ones who have had more problems in society and, despite the progress made, women continue to face discrimination in various sectors. In fact, according to the UN, women receive a lower salary than men and, additionally, they are not adequately represented in politics. Then, there are still violence, femicide and fights for gender equity. So we have to celebrate this day so that there are less problems and violence for women.

There are some people who think that International Women’s Day should be abolished. However, the reminder of the past, the fight against the current unstable situation, and the encouragement to continue to fight are all excellent reasons to continue celebrating this paramount day.

Sara

Why International Women’s Day is Crucial

March, 8th is the International Women’s Day: it is a special day to remember the fights of women for equal Rights. It is not just a celebration, but also a time to think about what is good in the condition of women around the world nowadays, and what still needs to change. It is in any case absoultely crucial to celebrate this day for some main valid reasons: first of all, because women and men are not truly equal yet; secondly, it helps people to learn about important problems; and, last but not least, the IWD is a strong reminder of women's successes in the past and a booster to action for future generations...

Today, women have more rights than before, but there are still problems: for example, women often earn less money than men for the same job. It is also harder for women to get important jobs. The International Women’s Day helps people to remember that we must keep working for fairness.

The IWD teaches people about the difficulties that women still face: as an instance of that, one can see how many people in this Day stop and talk about violence against women and about women’s Rights in different countries, like Afghanistan. If this day did not exist, fewer people would know about these problems.

However, the International Women’s Day is not only about problems: it also celebrates the good results women have achieved in the history of the world. If we removed this day, people would possibly forget the past fights and stop making progress.

On the other hand, some people may think and say that the International Women’s Day should be abolished because it is too commercial, and it seems to suggest that women’s Rights matter only one day a year. In addition, someone may really believe men and women are already on the same level.

However, it is undeniable that issues still exist in patriarchal societies, and women still have a long way to go before they can say fair and really equitable societies exist.

In conclusion, March 8th is an important day to remember women’s struggles and to make the world more aware of the real condition of many women. If we cancel it, we go backward instead of forward.

Linda

Celebrating I.W.D.: the core to a stable and equitable society

I.W.D. is the acronym that stands for International Women’s Day: a day in which the effort that women put to get their rights and gender equity is celebrated. It was first celebrated in 1922 (In Italy) by initiative of the Italian Communist Party. Some time later the “Compagna” newspaper was founded and in 1925 it reported an article written by Vladimir Lenin , in which he declared the 8th of March as the International Women’s Day. The I.W.D. Was officially set on the 8th of March in 1946 (in Italy) and later , in 1977 , at a UN meeting it was established that it would be set on the 8th of March as the “United Nations Day for women’s right and international peace” globally.

There are some truly good reasons why we should keep celebrating this day: first of all beacuse, as we see basically everyday, there are still femicides, not just in Italy, but in the whole World. There’s also gender unfairness, so much so that women have lower salaries, lower chances of getting into leading positions and in some countries equity between the Genders is something far from being achieved. So, we should promote and fight even harder to achieve a real equity in rights, chances and salaries.

Furthermore, I.W.D. is a reminder of the past and how women fought to get integrated in the society, which if we look at our history, is something that has happened only really recently.

In addition to that, I.W.D. is a lesson to future and younger generations, acting as a sort of booster to increase the level of awareness towards equity and fairness, until it is finally and truly reached.

Certainly it must be acknowledged that there is an opposite point of view: someone states that the I.W.D. might make women seem like they are fragile and weak creatures.

Sure enough, until our societies reach a fair level of gender equity and put an end to femicides and gender violence, we should keep celebrating this crucial day even if it may make women look weaker than they actually are, until we reach a stable and equitable society.

Gabriele

Why modern societies still need an 'International Women’s Day'

International Women’s day has been celebrated every year on the 8th of March since 1922. Women in St. Petersburg manifested for the end of the war in Russia on this exact date in 1917, so it was later agreed to be celebrated on March, 8th.

I’m absolutely convinced that we should keep celebrating the IWD for many good reasons: firstly, women are still victims of violence to this day, so much so that it is necessary to make people aware of this; secondly, it is a reminder of how hard other women have fought for their rights; third, it is a sort of lesson to the new generations and a booster to take action; lastly, it is a great positive reminder of what women can do.

Women continue to feel oppressed in today’s society: violence towards them unfortunately didn't stop and their situation is still critical in many areas of the world. Of course, women’s condition has evolved and improved in many areas of the world, but it still is not comparable to that of men. Therefore, we should keep celebrating this day and talking about women’s actual situation.

Secondly, having this day marked on our calenders reminds us of the past wars women had to fight in order to secure their Rights. It is important to keep reminding people that freedom has not always been granted, that many girls and women had to lose their lives to guarantee us a better future. Thus, it is fundamental to honour them.

Third, the new generations have to continue this fight for their Rights: they must not settle for less. Therefore, celebrating the International Women’s Day is a lesson and, most importantly, a booster to take action and never give up. It really is a motivational event.

Finally, this day helps us to keep in mind that women are capable of doing anything they want to, that they are are as strong as men - and maybe even more than men - and that we should leave stereotypes behind.

Some people may think that this day makes women look like fragile creatures who need to be protected: however, the 8th of March helps us all by reminding how far women have come in their fight for rights and clearly shows us their power.

In conclusion, we should keep celebrating the International Women’s day in order to motivate young girls to keep fighting, to honour women who did it before them, to help us to keep in mind the present situation in the society we live in and to show everyone how strong women can be.

Angelica

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY: A REMINDER AND AN OPPORTUNITY

The International Women’s day, celebrated annually on 8th March, is a celebration which is rooted in Feminist movements of the 20th century and it is absolutely crucial and certainly paramount that people keep celebrating all around the world for some very goood reasons: indeed, this day is not just a celebration, but also an opportunity to reflect on social, political and economic achievements, as well as the challenges which still persist nowadays. Despite the progress we have achieved, in fact, the Gender gap still exists, and still tends to lead our societies toward conflict.

First of all, this date is a reminder of the achievements of women’s fights and their importance: to celebrate means honouring women’s sacrifices and inspiring younger generations to pursue these fights.

Despite the progress we have achieved, the Gender gap still exists from workplace to politics: the majority of women doesn’t earn the same amount of salary for the same job as men. Furthermore, in politics there aren’t a lot of women in positions of power.

Sure enough, violence against women is still an issue that continues to plague too many countries: this day is to call for concrete actions and a relevant development. In particular Italy has the biggest amount of feminicides mainly by their partners or ex partners in Europe.

Someone would describe this day as an outdated celebration, no longer relevant in our modern society. Contrary to this idea are the data of the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report 2023 that confirm not all countries have achieved full gender equity yet. The World Health Organization reports that one in three women has experienced physical or sexual violence. The rooted stereotypes are also still existing and the real issue is prejudice.

All in all, 8th March is a key moment to pursue, reflect and to spread awareness, with the goal of building our future together.

Virginia

International Women’s Day is celebrated Worldwide on March 8th. It is an important day to remember women’s rights and their fight for equity. Some people think this day is not needed anymore. However, it is still very important for many reasons: it helps us remember the women who fought for us, shows that many women still face problems today, and teaches young people about respect and equality.

In the past, women did not have the same rights as men. They could not vote, study, or work freely. Thanks to many powerful women who fought for their rights, girls today can go to school and have a future. International Women’s Day is a way to say thank you to these women and to remember their hard work.

Even today, many women in the world still face violence and discrimination just because they are women. Some women do not have the right to study, work, or live safely. International Women’s Day is a moment to think about these problems and find ways to help. It is a reminder that the fight for women’s rights is not over.

This day is also important for young people. It teaches them about respect, equality, and the importance of helping others. When young boys and girls learn these values, they can build a better and fairer world in the future.

Some people say that International Women’s Day is not needed anymore because in many places women already have equal rights. Others think that celebrating women only creates more differences between people. Nevertheless, these people forget that in many parts of the world, women still do not have the same rights as men.

International Women’s Day helps us remember the past, think about the problems of today, and teach young people about respect and equality.

In conclusion, We should not abolish International Women’s Day. It is still important to remember the women who fought for us, help those who still suffer, and teach future generations to respect everyone. Until there is true equality, this day must continue. It is a day that unites us all in the hope of a better future.

Neive

Essay: I.W.D A DAY TO SPREAD AWARENESS...

The International Women’s day is celebrated annually as a reminder of Women ‘s MOVEMENTS AND STRUGGLES .

This day should not be abolished for many reasons: first at all, it focuses ON CRUCIAL CURRENT issues, it is a reminder of the past and finally, it acknowledges the successes of women.

This day should not be abolished because it focuses on current issues, such as violence,FEMICIDES and gender equity. Those problems are really common in our society: for this reason we have to focus on them as well as make people AWARE of these CURRENT ISSUES.

This celebration is a reminder of the past, but also of the present. Infact, it REMINDS us of IMPORTANT past events, when women were mistreated, and of the episode, which took place 8th March 1908 in New York, when 129 workers died because of a fire, in a factory. Thus, the International Women’s day is celebrated each year on 8th of March.

In addition, this celebration acknowledges the present successes of women in different fields, such as art, politic, science and economics. The International Women’s Day can be a lesson, not only for the current society, but also for the future generationS. It is a booster to teach ALL OF US how to behave, TO BE BRAVE, and not to make THE SAME mistakes.

ON THE OTHER END, THERE ARE many people WHO would like to abolish it: they think that this celebration legitimises the image of a weak woman. In fact, their thought is that this day might imply that gender equity hasn’t been achieved or that it could potentially focus on negative stereotipes, instead of celebrating women’s achievements.

Contrary to this idea, we should not abolish International Women’s day because this day is a reminder, a lesson, but also a BOOSTER FO AWARENESS AND EMPATHY. It is a crucial celebration for the past generation, the present and the future one, and it IS based on some of the most important values, which our generation risks losing.

Benedetta

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY: A CELEBRATION AND A CALL FOR CHANGE

International Women’s Day (IWD), celebrated on March 8th every year, since the beginning of the 20th century, is an important and international event that highlights the fight for women’s rights and their social, economic and political achievements. It brings attention to crucial issues like gender equality, discrimination and violence against women.

First and foremost, this day reminds us of a cruel reality: violence against women is still a serious and widespread problem. Every year, many women become victims of femicide, killed simply because they are women. This shocking truth shows that women’s safety is far from guaranteed. It is necessary to ensure better security and justice.

Secondly, this day shows both the progress made and the work still needed. In the past, women did not have basic rights like voting, education or job freedom. Today, while opportunities have increased, inequality still exists, like in salary gaps and limited job opportunities. Also, this day reminds us to reflect on this difference between past and present and continue fighting for real equality.

Moreover, this occasion inspires future generations; when young girls hear the stories of successful, powerful women, they learn to dream big and believe in their potential. This day gives them positive role models and the confidence to work toward their goals. It also promotes unity and solidarity, bringing men and women together to fight for a more equal world.

Some people believe International Women’s Day should be abolished because everyone deserves equal celebration. While this idea sounds fair, the reality is that women still face significant challenges. Until true equality is achieved, we need a day to focus on these issues.

In conclusion, International Women’s Day should not be abolished because it celebrates progress and inspires a better future. As long as inequality and violence persist, this day remains essential.

Alice B.

Every year on March 8th, people around the world celebrate the International Women’s Day. This is not just a day for giving flowers or saying kind words, it’s a moment to reflect on the progress we made, the challenges that still remain, and the importance of gender EQUITY.

While SOME 👀 may argue that this day is no longer necessary, the truth is that we must continue celebrating it. There are 3 main reasons for this: raising awareness about gender inequality, honoring the achievements of women, and inspiring future generations to fight for equality.

Raising Awareness About Gender Inequality

Despite the progress made in recent decades, gender inequality still exists in many parts of the world. Women continue to face discrimination in the workplace, unequal pay, and even restrictions on their rights and freedoms. International Women’s Day is an opportunity to be raise awareness to these issues and remind people that the fight for equality is not over. Of course, equality between men and women should not be something we remember only once a year—it should be something that has value in our everyday lives. However, dedicating a special day to this cause, helps keep to encourage governments, businesses, and individuals to take action.

Honoring the Achievements of Women

Women have played a crucial role in shaping history, yet their contributions have often been overlooked or undervalued. From scientists and politicians, to artists and activists, women have made remarkable achievements in every field. Celebrating International Women’s Day allows us to recognize and appreciate their efforts. By highlighting their successes, we not only give them the recognition they deserve but also show young girls that they too can achieve great things.

Inspiring Future Generations

The fight for gender equality is not just about the present—it is also about the future. By continuing to celebrate International Women’s Day, we send a strong message to the next generation that equality matters. Seeing strong female role models and learning about the struggles and victories of women throughout history can inspire young people to stand up for their rights and work towards a fairer society.

There are also recent studies where children were asked to draw a scientist, and they draw a woman. This is proof that times are changing, and one day women will achieve true equality at its finest. https://www.science.org/content/article/what-does-scientist-look-children-are-drawing-women-more-ever

In conclusion, International Women’s Day remains as important as ever. It serves as a reminder of the ongoing fight for gender equality, a way to honor women’s achievements, and an inspiration for future generations. While true equality should be recognized every day, dedicating one special day to it helps raise awareness, celebrate progress, and motivate changes. Until full equality is achieved, we must continue to celebrate this day and use it as an opportunity to push for a better world for everyone.

Viviana
