I absolutely adore Tame Impala's "Runway Houses City Clouds", the penultimate song from his debut album, "Innerspeaker". The song is a whirlwind of heavy bass lines, foamy guitar riffs and psychedelic fuzz. By far the longest song from the album at seven minutes and 15 seconds long, it details the struggles of traveling, facing one’s ego, and escaping the past, moving on from it. The lyrics show the internal struggle of Tame Impala's lead singer, Kevin Parker, of leaving behind what is long gone, and a few verses repeat an observable amount of times during the song, those being "But dont remind me of home", showing the coping process of moving on and leaving the past behind. Along with those verses, a few more lyrics also stand out: "It's true that some things have to change", presenting Kevin's harsh and reluctant acknowledgement of life moving on, and having to leave his old life behind. The title could be a series of the things he sees while moving on, or better said, like a snapshot from an airplane "I'm gazing out the window, as I ascend into the sky", seeing runways pass, houses and cities from above, and the never-ending chain of clouds. "Don't remind me of home" could also be interpreted as a denial that he's truly leaving, a sort of homesickness.
