since we have been reading so much about the loodsman in the storyboards of the city, we were wondering why the loodsmen lived all in this city den hoorn. What was behind the dunes, which offered them workingopportunities? We found out that until 1540 the place until the landdune was flotted by water. The boats coming from india came from this side of the island to Texel. The loodsmen waited for the boats to come and helped them to get to the island and unship their boat. The first one who saw the boat would eran the money, so the faster is the richer :)

After arriving at Texel we went to explore the villace of Den Hoorn. There is a lovely church and many small houses that date back to V.O.C times. They are very beautiful. Many of the houses have small signs on them telling you more about the history of the place. This is very usefull when doing research and interesting as well.

in the morning we took our bikes all the way to Oudeschilde, where there is the harbour, the place where all the ships in the VOC-time landed.
The museum turned out to be a very interesting place, because it showed the history from different point of views. It gave us an insight in the live of these days. How traveled the traders, what did they took with them? What did their families and women during their traject? What does the population did with the imported products? What brought they along in their ships?

nearby the harbour we were supposed to find a well which brought water to all the boatswain. After some time, in which we were looking for it, we finally found it. We were surprised by how small the well was. How was it possible that this little place brought enough water for all these people?
