"When people start dancing, a kind of ownership ritual takes over. They’ve marked out their own physical space: it now belongs to them. Likewise, they’ve started to take ownership of the music they’re hearing. They don’t want it to stop."

Repetition

The definitions of repetition is that it is not just about hearing the same tones or notes over and over. Repetition is music that reminds of other things like dancing or a scenery. Repetition is about making connections with people, objects, art and musical artist. Repetition is important across all kinds of music because like Ratliff said “the effect of repetition depends not on one figure being repeated identically...but on a relative change moving...which is really the key to life’s riddle of time and gratification.” (Ch.1) I do agree with Ratliff's argument because I think that it is important to make changes and be open to newer things.

I think the song Sing, Sing, Sing is a musical example that exemplifies the musical concept because even though people would say it is repeating the same beats or rhythm I think it is more about the movement of the song and the people. I think it is about connecting it to a bigger picture rather than it has a good beat to it. I think the song Malibu is a good example because it represents the same idea. The meaning of the song is about change and consistency with love or yourself. I think having those two topics combined represents the idea that the is more than repeating the same concepts but moving forward to new ones.
This padlet will go through different images and videos exemplifying the idea of change in styles but keeping that connection in music and movement.
