It was so fun working with my group to create a story with our graph. I didn't seem to get it until I was able to hear the thinking of others in my group. Love that you include this performance task as a formal assessment to see their understanding of the concept. So amazing and will definitely be useful next year in our Flipped Classroom/ Hybrid design Covid has put upon us. Thanks again! Great work!

But I was super excited and my mind was going crazy seeing applications of this all over the place. So awesome. In social studies we do look at data sets and graphs and to have students tell a story around those, because there's always a story, those numbers MEAN something, they are representations of lives lived, of lives lost, of riches and robberies...man! Sorry, super stoked on this, wish my son could have you as a math teacher :)

I experienced the same iterative process working with my partner. Writing is a human tool for thought, it allows us to form thoughts and return to them-- you are joining math and writing tools!

To create more time for the pair activity, you could condense the time you spend on your teaching context. 
Definitely keep in the student work. Your reflections at the end are useful because they show your growth, too.

There are so many crossovers for ELA and Social Studies. Students need to be able to read graphs and data to understand informational texts! Data literacy is a huge need for our students in all subject areas and this is a great way to expose them to the connection between understanding our world and reading a graph.
