Scope and sequence is a summary of what is to be taught throughout the school year. This includes the order it will be taught and the learning outcomes. This is important because it allows for highly effective teaching and learning. It allows teachers to collaborate and coordinate to make learning as best as possible for students . It will also allow parents to have a better understanding of learning outcomes for their students .

Jack

A Scope and Sequence, to me, is the same concept as a "year plan"; it sets out the general units of study within a certain subject / class. It includes the general units of study; the key concepts and associated outcomes; the materials needed; and approximate timeframes. A scope and sequence is also a "fluid" document, which means it constantly changes upon teacher reflection (on student and school needs, etc.). I believe, as with any planning, a scope and sequence should be "backwards designed" so that objectives / outcomes dictate the units and activities of a course.

I think a scope and sequence is a framework for what the kids will be learning throughout their primary education, but fully adjustable to students cultural, level of understanding, and individual learning needs.

Scope and sequence is an outline of learning objectives and outcomes. It sets useful learning goals for both the educators as well as the learners. It defines the relationship between scope of learning and syllabus outcome.

Scope and sequence: Scope is an overview of the topics to be covered and taught in the units of study or, in the case of IB, units of inquiry. The scope lays out the overall view of guidance for teachers on what is to be accomplished during the course of study. The sequence lays out the overall direction that teachers will plan to according to the decided scope. The sequence planning must be firmly done with other teachers as the necessity of IB needs to the students to explore multiple disciplines in their course of study.
