Now that you are familiar with the Dragonframe set-up and the space for testing materials, we will use the writing of stage directions, borrowed from theatre, to introduce 3 possible opening of a scene. 

In preparation next week each of you should aim to do the following:

1) 

Write 3 stage directions for possible opening shot of your film. This padlet has a few examples.

2) 

Aim to bring in an additional 3-5 materials that will help you to build a scene based on your stage directions. Make sure you bring in a good amount of materials to work with, which will allow you to be indulgent in your use of materials. You may wish to refer to your tests at this stage, where did problems arise (e.g. Will you need to shoot against a backdrop? Will you require additional materials to obscure the stage?)

3) 
If you need to create additional props or scenery for your tests next week, I recommend you do this ahead of the session.

Estragon, sitting on a low mound is trying to take off his boot. He pulls at it with both hands, panting. He gives up, exhausted, rests, tries again. As before.

It is Central Park; a Sunday Afternoon in summer; the present. There are two park benches, one towards either side of the stage; they both face the audience. Behind them: foliage trees, sky. At the beginnig, Peter is seated on one of the benches.

Scene: An unpretentious dining-room, drawing-room and office combined. 
On the right, a door. 
On the left another door.
Backstage centre a large window with closed shutters; the space between the slats is, however, wide enough to let in sufficient light. Left centre, a small table strewn with notebooks and pencils. On the right, against the wall, between the window and the right-hand door, a small table with a telephone switchboard on it, and a chair. Another chair also close to the centre table. An old armchair well down stage. There should be no other furniture in the first act, except a clearly visible clock, with hands that move.
