It was controlled by hundreds of semi-independent feudal lords. The Western powers — Europe and the United States — had forced Japan to sign treaties that limited its control over its own foreign trade. After Hirohito took control of Japan things went great due to the advancement in technology, military, agriculture and many other advancements to make the country great. Things went great until September 1945. An atomic bombing in Hiroshima and Nagasaki took place and Hirohito broke the precedent of imperial silence and announced the nation's unconditional surrender to the Allied Forces. Japan lost 2.3 million soldiers and an estimated 800,000 civilians in WWII.
