Today I started to create my backgrounds for my production. I am using Photoshop to create them and I'm getting pictures from google images and modifying them. I have two different backgrounds that I am creating for each two scenes. One of them is a park with plenty of trees and a gate. The second is of a road with a house and a few bushes around to make it look more realistic. The point of this is to create a cartoon background but use real life pictures of people, to bring something new and fresh which is also appealing to children. My characters are people in my class who I have taken pictures of in the photo studio at college. I am going to upload the pictures onto Photoshop and cut them out, but not right on the edge. They are going to have a jagged edge so they look like stickers. I think I could improve on my photoshopping skills massively because I think the whole look turned out pretty basic. If I had longer I think I could have made it look more professional.

Today I started to photoshop the pictures which I took yesterday. I took pictures of Cliff and some of my classmates for my video. I started by deleting the background of the image. I then used the eraser tool to cut around the images to give a rough outline around them to create a 'sticker' effect. I think the final video will look quite quirky and fun. I think this would be appealing to kids and I will be using this effect in the future. I don't think anyone else has used this technique so I think it's unique and something different. I found it difficult at first but once I had done a few of them it started to get easier.

Today we started filming. On final cut pro, you have to put different layers on top of each other to get backgrounds and people to look realistic. I had to really concentrate on making the video look professional because I wasn't really that good at editing videos but I gave it my best shot. I did two different scenes and it took quite a long time to do because I had to wok a lot of it out for myself. I learned how to do key frames which enables images to move across the screen to make a 'walking' or 'driving' affect. When all they key frames were in places I added some sound effects and some music. I then got Matt to go and do the voice over so we have someone talking over the video so it makes more sense to kids.

I found the whole process really stressful. This is because we didn't have much time to do it at all. I had to come in on my days off to finish the project. Things I can improve on would be my timing. I would plan what I would do each day so it was save lots of time in the long run. I would have a set schedule.

I have learned some new skills whilst doing this project. For example, I now know how to use final cut pro and how to put a video together which I never knew how to do before. I can now add audio onto a video and I am now more confident when using Photoshop which are skills I can use in the future and when doing future projects involving media.

This is a mind map I produced in my class today. On my mind map I included the health and safety, the equipment i needed, pictures of what i can envision my characters in my video to look like etc. I got a lot out of this class because it made me think in more depth about how i want my video to turn out. I will do more mind maps in the future because it is really helpful. I like doing my mind maps in bright colours because it makes it less boring and easier to look at.
