    • They had to buy a stamp for every piece of paper purchased

    • Colonists had to house British soldiers
  • Townshend Acts 
    • Taxed many goods including glass, sugar, tea, paper and more
  • Boston Massacre 
    • A mob attacked British soldiers and the people in the mob were shot
  • The Tea Act
    • Tea was taxed by the British
  • Boston Tea Party 
    • Sons of Liberty threw tea overboard in the Boston harbor
  • Intolerable Acts (Coercive Acts) 
    • Britain passed a series of very harsh laws because the colonists were rebelling

Some sided with the British because they said colonists could not cross the Appalachian mountains, which would let the natives keep their territory. They were also revered for their fighting skills and also disliked for the disputes they had with farmers.
Slaves:
Some slaves wanted to fight in the war and were seeking freedom but George Washington refused to let them join, fearing they would escape from their plantations and cause problems.

What happened was that he secretly, he moved his army south to Virginia, where they joined the French in surrounding Yorktown on land with more than 16,000 troops. The French warships cut off the British navy and any hope of rescue by sea which made the British surrender.
