They were also revered for their fighting skills and also disliked for the disputes they had with farmers.</div><div>Slaves:</div><div>Some slaves wanted to fight in the war and were seeking freedom but George Washington refused to let them join, fearing they would escape from their plantations and cause problems.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>

What happened was that he secretly, he moved his army south to Virginia, where they joined the French in surrounding Yorktown on land with more than 16,000 troops. The French warships cut off the British navy and any hope of rescue by sea which made the British surrender.</div><div><br></div>]]></description>
