The Cognitive-Developmental Theory of Piaget's is the most relatable to for me. In Piaget's theory it explains from the stages of infancy through toddlerhood, children are constructing their own ways of interacting with the world, cognitive schemas, ideas, and concepts. One age-graded event that I had was I began to walk at the age of 1, this is a very common event to happen at that age. One non-normative event that I had was my very first word was "carne" instead of mama or dada, I started eating meat at a the age of 8-month. You can blame my parents for this. One world-event that I went through was the 9/11 attacks, even though I was very young during this event it did have an impact throughout my childhood. My parents were very cautions with my two brothers and I when traveling or leaving the house. This affected me because it gave me attachment issue as my parents could not be out of my site without me causing a scene.

The theory of mind explains from the ages three to six years old, we begin to understand the appropriate social behaviors and understand the emotions of others. For example, at this age I would offer hugs to anyone who was sad or pretended to be sad because I believe the hug would fix it.
Around this age children understand the social standard that it is not okay to hit others and know that there is a consequence if they do. An age-graded event that I experience was I entered pre-k at the age of four, which is the typical age when a child enters pre-k. A non-normative event that I experienced was at the age of four I busted my head open. I was jumping from a bed to another bed, in which I slipped and hit my head on the rail and this bust my head open. A history-graded event that I experienced was in 2007 when the first iPhone came out. This was the beginning of a new norm with smartphones. As I grew up all I knew was messing with the new iPhone or wanting it and it became a distraction to all children around the world.

Middle Childhood years

The middle childhood years are very crucial for every developing child because during this time a every child is trying to become a popular child among their peers and have as many friends as possible. In section 10.2 explains the concepts of peer acceptance, popularity, and rejection. A child is considered a popular child when they are valued their peers, wanting to become their friend. Every child wants to be a popular child but there are some cases where a child is rejected by their peer, which negatively effects a child. This can cause a lot of aggression in the child and negatively influence their development. I relate to this because at this age I tried to hang out with the cool kids and get invited to their birthday parties. An age-graded event that I experience is I began puberty at the age of 12, which is a common age for boys to start puberty. My family and I started to see I was going through some noticeable changes of my body and voice. My voice started to get deeper and getting a few voice cracks throughout the day. The body changes where I began to become taller, my shoulders became broader, and the growth of pubic hair. A non-normative event that I experience was at the age of 8, this is when I first started to use glasses. A history-graded event that I experience was in 2009 Barack Obama became the first African-American president to be elected. This was American history I experienced first-hand, creating a new topic in the majority of history classes. Not only did I learn about him in majority of my history classes, but he was the president for the majority of my middle childhood years.

In the years of adolescences, a major component for development are the friendships created with their peers. Adolescences display intimacy, trust, loyalty, and self-disclosure within their friendships. They expect for their friends to support them, stand up for them, and keep their secrets safe. During their friendships everyone develops perspective taking, social sensitivity, social skills, and empathy. I connect with concept the most because I have met plenty of people, but I only have 6 close friends that I have shared or displayed all these traits with. We are a group of 7 friends that have been by each other’s side since middle school to present day and will continue to be my best friends for the rest of my life. A age-graded event i have experienced was at the age of 15 I had a huge grow spurt in which I went for the height of 5'8" to 6'1". Boys tend to have their gow spurts from the ages 12 to 15. A non-normative event I experienced has having an eye surgery to prevent from my vision to get worse, this was because I have a disease called Keratoconus. A history-graded event I experienced was on July, 26 2015 the United States legalized same sex marriage. Even though I am a straight male I do believe that everyone should be able to marry whoever they please regard if they are the same sex.

During the stage of emerging adulthood, a major component is attempting to find their love companion. In chapter 14, I relate to the concept of cohabitation very well because in near future I will be moving in and living with my girlfriend. This concept explains that more young adults are living with their romantic partner. An age-graded event that I have experienced was getting my first job at the age of 19. This is an average age when a person gets their first job. A non-normative event that I experienced was when I had my toe nail ripped off my toe. This event occurred during work when I accidently opened a freezer door and stubbed my toe causing for the entire nail to completely rip off my toe. A history-graded event I experienced was the corona virus pandemic (COVID-19). This pandemic impacted everyone’s life because it completely shut down the nation. This really impacted me because this changed my lifestyle from going to public crowed places all the time to staying home because I did not want to risk getting the virus.
