Over the past few years, global warming has become a significant problem that is regularly discussed among scientists and environmentalists.Global warming can be defined as the increase of the average temperature on earth (Venkataraman &Smitha, 2011). It is not only the issue right now but also a big concern for the future. According to IPCC (2010), global warming will cause the sea level to rise from 31cm to 110cm by the end of the century. This essay will focus on major causes of global warming and its effects on the physical infrastructure as well as human communities.

The most significant cause of global warming is human activities which include the emissions of greenhouse gases and deforestation. “Greenhouse gas is composed of carbon dioxide and monoxide (CO2, CO), nitrogen oxide Nox,Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC), sulphuric fluoride methane, hydrocarbon, water vapor etc.” (Bhattacharjee , 2010). According to Riphah (2015), CO2 is the major element of greenhouse gas, it can be produced by burning anything. For instance, people use cars, planes and so on. The other activity of humans leading to global warming is deforestation. Plants have a specific function which is called “carbon sink” that means plants can store carbon. Deforestation could stop storing carbon. In the other word,it would cause release carbon dioxide into atmosphere. (Venkatavaman &Simitha, 2011). Thus it can be said that the human activities can expedite global warming.

This has been harmfully affecting many countries for long decades. As the Earth is getting hotter, disasters like hurricanes, droughts and floods are getting more frequent. In addition, over the last 100 years, the average air temperature near the Earth’s surface has risen by a little less than 1 degree Celsius or 1.3 degrees Fahrenheit, threating the nations (Venkataramanan & Smitha). In this essay, the causes and effects of global warming will be presented.

increase of the average temperature on Earth, has been an alarming issue in
recent centuries (Venkataramanan & Smitha, 2011). Despite this, a number of
people seem unaware of the consequences of the global warming. “What most
people do not understand is that global warming is currently happening, and we
are already experiencing some of its withering effects. It is and will severely
affect ecosystems and disturb ecological balance”(Umair Shahzad & Riphah,
2015). In this essay, the major causes and serious effects of global warming
based on scientific evidences will be presented. Reasons behind global warming can be
broadly divided into two which are human causes and natural causes. To begin
with human causes; the deforestation could be one of important contributors as
it increases Carbon dioxide (CO2) on the air, which is the main factor of the
global warming. As forests and grasslands are cleared for people’s use,
enormous amounts of stored carbon enter the atmosphere. (Venkatavaman
&Simitha, 2011). In recent centuries, however, people have been logging a
number of trees to develop their industries or obtain their own profits. According
to University of Maryland (cited in Coco Liu, 2014), “at least 700,000 hectares
(about 1.8 million acres) of forests is disappearing each year in Indonesia,
equivalent to nearly two soccer fields per minute since 2013.” As the other
human cause, the emission of greenhouse gases badly affect global warming in
various ways. Greenhouse gases act like a mirror and reflect back to the Earth
some of the heat energy which would otherwise be lost to space.(Venkataramanan
& Smitha, 2011) Although this effect is essential in the earth, people are
emitting excessive gases into the atmosphere, using vehicles when they commute,
burning enormous trashes as well as operating various factories. When the
greenhouse gases increase, it changes the radiative equilibrium in the atmosphere,
warming the Earth's surface and the lower atmosphere due to the re-radiation of
heat energy (Umair Shahzad & Riphah, 2015). ” It is obvious that this
careless and continuous logging and greenhouse gases emission would accerate
global warming more than ever before.

Global warming also can be the consequence
of natural causes. The crucial point of changing the climate is the presence of
aerosols in the atmosphere. When it comes to how those affect the temperature, “Firstly,
they scatter and absorb solar and infrared radiation and secondly, they may
alter the microphysical and chemical properties of clouds and perhaps affect
their lifetime and extent. The scattering of solar radiation acts to cool the
planet, while absorption of solar radiation by aerosols warms the air directly
instead of permitting sunlight to be absorbed by the surface of the Earth” (Umair
Shahzad & Riphah, 2015). In other words, it increases the global
temperature by absorption of solar radiation in natural way.

Global Warming
greenhouse gases natural and human causes

Over the past few years, global warming has become a significant problem that is regularly discussed among scientists and environmentalists.Global warming can be defined as the increase of the average temperature on earth (Venkataraman & Smitha, 2011). It is not only the issue right now but also a big concern for the future. According to IPCC (2010), global warming will cause the sea level to rise from 31cm to 110cm by the end of the century. This essay will focus on major causes of global warming and its effects on health issues as well as human future.

(Venkatavaman & Simitha, 2011). Thus it can be said that the human activities can expedite global warming.

However, while much of the focus regarding global warming has been on manmade causes, there are several events in the natural world that can contribute to global warming, such as the increase of CO2 level in the atmosphere. The dynamics of oceans-atmosphere exchange plays an important natural factor to increase the temperature in the planet. Greenhouse gases, mainly carbon dioxide CO2 and carbon monoxide CO, are soluble gases which are dissolved in the ocean. These gases are absorbed from the troposphere to the sea water through the turbulences on the oceanic surface. This natural cycle described below is finalised with the CO2 turning back to the atmosphere released by marine plants called phytoplankton (retrieved from https://www.niwa.co.nz/oceans/ocean-atmosphere-interactions/dynamics-of-ocean-atmosphere-exchange). The control of CO2 level in the atmosphere is the most financial and technological challenge, but is necessary to comprehend climate change (David M. Karl, University of Hawaii, Honolulu, HI, and approved December 17, 2006). Furthermore, around mid-nineteenth century the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere reach approximately 50 ppm this has lead to a corresponding growth in the pCO2 of sea water (Peter G. Brewer, 1978).
Nowadays, the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere as well as the level of oceans have been increased inducing an increment in greenhouse gases, hence may lead to global warming. Indeed, natural factors have been under huge influence of Human action, consequently these factors tend to speed up their turn overs.
The planet is warming and the effects of global warming is already causing damages. Ice are starting to melt contributing to sea level changes, (Kakkas, 2015) maintains that many islands have already coexisted and also put cities and ports in danger of being submerged into sea waters in the future. In addition rising temperature could result in more heat related deaths mainly from cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, as the earth becomes warmer it also effects water borne disease, and disease transmitted through insects, also it triggers conditions like asthma (WHO, 2016). Global warming is therefore overwhelmingly negative for this earth.
