Anne of Green Gables

100 min 1-57

The setting in the story works well with the main character. The main character is named Anne. She is an orphan, and she comes to Green Gables, the place where she is living. Anne is a very imaginative person. She is also very talkative. Green Gables is a very nice place filled with trees, meadows, lakes and beautiful houses. In the story, Anne is always making up names for places in Green Gables. For example, she named a lake, Lake of Shining Waters. Another example is "They should call it, the white way of delight". The setting in Green Gables works well with Anne because Green Gables is full of different places to name, and great places for imagining things. Anne also likes really beautiful things. Green Gables can provide the elegant things that Anne can imaging and name. That is why the setting fits well with Anne.

I thought that Rikki-Tikki-Tavi was going to end up fighting a cobra. I had this prediction because of the background that we read, and because of the text. It turned out that I was right. Rikki-Tikki did actually fight a cobra, and he won. I liked this book, I think it had a good storyline, and it was very entertaining. I was glad that we read the background because that helped me make my prediction.

Paul Bunyan

There was a lot of exaggeration, there was a hero, and the main character was bigger than life and he was also stronger. The main character was named Paul Bunyan. He was a giant and he started a logging company. What was exaggerated was that he was very tall and strong. When he was a baby, his parents left him in the woods because he was causing earthquakes. He was also exaggerated because he hauled all the trees in the woods. He also dug the grand canyon accidentally. I think that the theme of the story was that, there is always a way to solve problems if you think about it.

Chains

100 min the whole book
I saw character development in the book. Chains is about the experiences of a slave girl in New York in the 1700. At the beginning of the book the girl, Sal, is very unsure about her new situation and master. She needs to protect her sister and her self and she feels like she didn't do a good job because her sister gets sold with out her knowing. In the middle of the book, she starts to gets to get a little rebellious. She ends up getting in trouble and ends up getting an I on her cheek. The I stands for insolence. Later on in the book, she is starting to visit the prison where all the American solders are staying. This is another act against the rules. A little later on she decides to escape with a boy who was nice to her. She does this mainly because her mistress wanted to sell her, and because she discovered that her sister didn't actually get sold, and was at her mistress's other house. So in the book you see the main character go from unsure, to a little disobeying to full rebellion.

Hostage

100 min the whole book
In Hostage, I made a connection to another book. Hostage is written by the same author as the book I am making a connection too. That book is called "Babysitting is a dangerous job". Babysitting is a dangerous job is about a babysitter who gets kidnapped with the kids she is watching. In hostage, she also gets kidnapped. The two books are similar because the kidnappers aren't trying to kidnap the girls. The girls just happen to be there at the wrong time. Another similarity is that they are written by the same author. I think that I was able to make that connection because the author had a similar type of story in both books and because the author had a similar writing style in both books. The two books are similar because they both get rescued in the end by the main character's wits and luck. Those are the connections that I made from Hostage and Babysitting is a dangerous job.

50 min 57-200
This reminds me of the book because Anne really wants puffed sleeves on her dresses, and her adopted mother will not let her have them because they aren't suitable for working in. I also now agree with her mother.

50 min 57-200
This picture reminds me of the book because they used the fifth reader at this time. Anne was a fifthe reader in her life. The school system back then was that you studied the right book depending eather on your age or how good you are. So I choose this picture because it shows an example of the school system back then.
