Penal law- a law prescribing a penalty (as a fine or imprisonment) for one who violates it

Gentrified- renovate and improve (a house or district) so that it conforms to middle-class taste.

Marginalized- a person, group, or concept) treated as insignificant or disregarded

Abject- hopeless, very bad/severe

Populace - the people living in a particular country or area.
