The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution was passed on August 7, 1964. The Gulf of Tonkin was when two navy destroyers named Maddie and Turner Joy fired on in the Gulf of Tonkin. The two destroyers were there on a mission to collect information for the South about the North. Anyways, the resolution gave LBJ approval to send troops into Vietnam to stop conflict. This connects to the Pearl Harbor and GW Bush having information about terrorist attempting to hijack planes weeks before 9/11.

The Ho Chi Minh Trail was used during the Vietnam war to send supplies from the North to the South so the North could attack the South. This trail was mostly used by the North to attack and over throw the South Vietnamese government. It was used in 1959 through 1975. This trail ran 12,000 miles down the west border of Vietnam.

Tet Offensive

The Tet Offensive took place on Lunar New Year in late January of 1968. The North forces launched coordinated attacks on many South Vietnamese forces in hopes of victory. They thought that by bombing major cities, the US would withdraw or negotiate with them. At the very least, stop bombing the North and stop the guerilla attacks. They chose Tet because it was traditionally a time of peace. This connects to the Battle of Trenton because both actions were taken on holidays. George Washington's army crossed the icy Delaware and fought two major battles over the next 10 days in 1776.

My Lai Massacre

On March 15, 1968 American soldiers went to My Lai and brutally murdered the unarmed civilians. They murdered about 504 people including infants, women, and old men. The people involved also tried to cover up the scandal, but someone from the 11th Brigade named Ron Ridenhour brought the events to light. Because of this, it divided American opinion even more. They killed people, set the houses on fire, and raped many young children. Before this could continue, Hugh Thompson, a Warrant Officer, stopped the fire by threatening to open fire on the soldiers firing. This connects to the Boston Massacre where the British Army opened fire on a mob throwing rocks and sticks at the soldiers. They had no guns.

This tactic was used by the South Vietnamese military and the U.S military. The South inserted ground forces into hostile territory to search for the enemy to destroy them and withdraw immediately afterwards. This was used from 1956 through 1968 in hostile enemy territory.

Throughout 1961 to 1971 the US military had code-named something called "Operation Ranch Hand" and sprayed more than 20 million gallons of various herbicides over 4.5 million acres of Vietnam, as well as Cambodia and Laos. It was done to eliminate forest cover and crops. However, it was proven to cause serious health issues like cancer, birth defects, rashes, severe psychological and neurological problems to both the Vietnamese and US. This connects to the mustard gas used in World War One which caused many short and long term effects like burning, vomiting, and lose of senses.
