The “kick back” is a common custom of the bros. Many subcultures throw ragers and parties and Bros are not excluded from that. But, Bros have coined the kick back which is a party of about a dozen people or less with drinks, music, and a favorable ratio. This brings us to the mores and laws of the Bro subculture. An even ratio is essential within the Bro subculture. This means the number of Bros must be the same or less that the number of women present at a social outing. If this ratio isn’t even or favorable for the Bros, the outing is considered “lame”. Further, Bros typically form tight exclusive groups. Among these groups the most important rule followed is the “Bro Code”. The Bro Code is sacred in the Bro subculture. It states that no hoes may come before Bros. This means that romantic interests may never come between the brotherly bonds formed in these tight Bro groups.

The clothing of the Bro subculture is very identifiable. Typically wearing frayed-brim baseball hats, oxford shirts, sports team T-shirts, cargo shorts, boat shoes or sandals; the Bros can be found at Buffalo Wild Wings or other sports bars watching the game. The material culture of Bros can be quite expensive; the “preppy Bro” usually wears conservative causal clothing like Abercrombie & Fitch, Vineyard Vines, and Ralph Lauren. This expensive taste most likely stems from wealthy parents and this brings us to the nonmaterial side of Bro culture. Most Bros are a disappointment to their fathers; while this isn’t necessarily true in all cases, it is in most. This is because of the innate spoiledness that comes with a life of partying and drinking without responsibilities. Bros of wealthy parents may have a job at their parent’s business, but their lifestyle is typically frowned upon making parental relationships very frictional in the Bro subculture.

Problematic Party Culture

Bro culture is generally associated with partying and normally is followed with a lot of negative connotations. Things such as: binge drinking, sexism, and rape culture have all been associated with the bro culture. A lot of this stems from college fraternities and a lot of the negative behaviors that come with them. Fraternities have had a history of serious hazing that has even resulted in death. According to a 2016 Project Know Survey, "Since 1950 there have been approximately 172 reported hazing deaths", and three different studies have found that men who join fraternities are three times more likely to commit rape than other college men. This makes party culture a big issues for the bros- especially with the vastly growing MeToo movement which has been striving to change the conversation about sexual assault.
