Artists are a significant part of world history because of how it can capture moments within different periods throughout history that allows us to grasp a better understanding of that time. My artist, Alex Pasquini is a significant example of this shown through a more modern lens. Throughout many of her pieces she depicts the beauty in life, capturing moments that carry raw emotion behind them. She highlights both the good and bad moments within life, making her art seem more down to earth. One of Alex’s more well known pieces, Under Layers portrays many emotions. For example, the girl in the painting is mindlessly floating. This could highlight a weight being lifted from their mind.

Vitor Meireles was a very important painter to arise out of Brazil during the 1800s. In 1847, he went to the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts in Rio de Janeiro. He then spent 8 years in Europe, in which he created A primeira missa no Brasil before he returned right back to Brazil to keep painting. In 1856 he created this painting, known as Cabeca de homem which translates to Man’s Head. It depicts a seemingly wealthy individual with a stylish hat and killer mustache. He would go on to make many other beautiful paintings, many of which were commissioned by the government to depict the military.

Luigi Lucioni was from Malnate, Italy, and lived from 1900-1988. Lucioni then moved to New York, but kept his Italian style of painting. 2 prominent works of art created by Lucioni were Pinks and Yellows and Story Pasture. Luigi Lucioni was associated with realism and he enjoyed incorporating light and shadow within his paintings to emphasize the real shades around us. He mostly published art during the years of the Great Depression and World War II, which could have been to aid the public and the people around him in still seeing the goodness that surrounded them besides famine, poverty, and fighting.

Lene Schneider-Kainer, born Lene Schneider, was a Jewish-Austrian painter, the daughter of the painter Sigmund Schneider. Lene was born on May 16, 1885, in Vienna, Austria. She became known for her vivid portraits, bold modernist style, and remarkable 1920s expedition across Asia, where she sketched and painted daily life, sacred spaces, and women's work from China to India. Lene's remarkable expedition was actually an assignment from the Berliner Tageblatt newspaper to retrace the steps of Marco Polo throughout the Middle East and Asia. Lene was able to sketch, photograph, and write about her impressions and experiences. These contributions commonly appeared in Berliner Tageblatt, but sadly, most of the photographs are largely lost. Some of Lene's famous works were the production of lithographic erotic portfolios with titles such as "Ten female acts" and "Before the Mirror."
