  • Materialism: It is a form of philosophical monism which holds matter to be the fundamental substance in nature, and all things, including mental states and consciousness, are results of material interactions.

  • Capitalism: It is “a system of production that contrasts radically with all previous economic systems”. which has two main elements: capital and wage labour. 

  • Social class: It is a set of concepts in the social sciences and political theory centred on models of social stratification which occur in a class society, in which people are grouped into a set of hierarchical social categories, the most common being the upper, middle and lower classes.

  • Historical developments: primarily refers to changes in the unfolding of history.

  • Class Conflict: It is the motor of history and the motivation for historical developments. 

  • Alienation: A condition in which men are dominated by the forces of their own creation which then confront them as an alien power; the lack of recognition that society and [capitalist] social institutions are constructed and reconstructed by human beings and therefore can be changed. 

  • Communism: It is a political and economic system that seeks to create a classless society in which the major means of production, such as mines and factories, are owned and controlled by the public. There is no government or private property or currency, and the wealth is divided among citizens equally or according to individual need.

    Social classes are the division of members of society due to their social or economic status. 

    Historical Development is a process primarily affected by the conflict between opposing economic classes, which is dependent on the changes of productive forces.

    Class conflict appears to be the political tension and economic antagonism consequent to the socio-economic competition between classes. Direct forms of social conflict include industrial lockouts to directly weaken the bargaining power of workers, indirect forms take the form of strikes in protest of bad conditions.

    Alienation is a consequence of being a cog in the countless gears of a social class, alienating them to the point of subhuman. dictated by the bourgeoise those who own the means to production. Alienation is commenced in order to extract maximum surplus values from the workers to compete with else businesses

    2.Capitalism
    an economic system, a production system completely different from the previous economic system. It owns most of the wealth and production of society.

    Social class:
    The capitalist class who own most of society's wealth and means of production is called Bourgeoisie while the social class of wage-earners are called proletariat

    3. Historical developments
    Karl Marx regard the course of history thus far as a constant conflict between the upper and lower class. This 'class struggle', in Marx's view, is what drives the civilisation and history forward.

    Is the characteristic of capitalism. Technological progress, but wealth is accumulated in the hands of a small number of people. Uncoordinated resource allocation.

    5.Alienation

    -workers are alienated as they lose control 
    (no ownership of the products or tools of production / do not play a part is setting organisational goals /  no longer an expression of individuals’ creativity & freedom when they’re enforced to work and survive / increase of labour and competition)

    6.Communism 
    a form of people's overall ownership of social resources, or a form of distribution belonging to society as a whole. It is a form of public ownership in which people jointly own social resources, work together, and share the fruits of labor to achieve the goal of the people being the masters of their own affairs.

    In the discipline of history, historical development primarily refers to changes in the unfolding of history.They look to the historical development of agriculture, arguing that farmers have always adapted to the changing needs of the population and the changing climate.

    Capitalism and Social Class:
    Capitalism is “a system of production that contrasts radically with all previous economic systems”,which has two main elements: capital and wage labour.the capitalist class who own most of society's wealth and means of production is called Bourgeoisie while the social class of wage-earners are called Proletariat.

    Communism:
    Communism is a social, political, and economic philosophy and movement aiming to construct a communist society. A social and economic order based on the ideals of common ownership of means of production and the absence of social classes. A new humane society would emerge. 

    Alienation:
    The failure to recognize that society and social institutions are formed and reformed by humans and so can be changed; the circumstance in which men are ruled by forces of their own creation, which then face them as an alien power. Alienation, according to Marx, is the slavery of humans by their own works, which have taken on the appearance of being autonomous things.
