Lil Tjay's birth name is Tione Jayden Meritt, born April 30th, 2001. He is from South Bronx, New York. Raised by his single mother with his younger siblings Melovoni and another named Tione. He was always the problem of the family. In his early teenage years, he spent time fighting involved in robberies which led him to a youth detention center in 2016.

Lil Tjay inspires me because he has seen it all, and been through so much at a very young age. He started writing songs based on his life and past what he is going through and how he feels. Then he gets shot, and writes the songs "Beat the Odds" and "June 22nd". What I love about him is through everything he's been through at 22 years old he's still able to get back on his feet and continue his career.

While in prison for robbery charges, Tjay found the motivation to get through his sentence by writing lyrics. Upon his release in 2016, Tjay, still just a teenager, began recording his songs and posting them online.
