On August 11th 2018 I went to the normally scheduled eye appointment for back to school, at the end of my appointment my eye doctors said that he was sending me to nationwide to get my optic nerve checked out. Me and my mom didn’t even know what that was. I was really scared Because I had always had perfect eyes. My Mom called Nationwide and made my appointment and my appointment was on the first day of school. So on August 15th I went to my first appointment and I was really nervous. My doctor was named Dr Cassidy and she checked my eyes and she said that she did really see anything. That made me Nervous but relieved at the same time so she dilated my eyes. She checked again and still didn’t see anything so she ordered an MRI for the NEXT DAY so I had to miss school ( THE SECOND DAY OF SCHOOL). I went the next day for my MRI and I was really nervous because I didn’t know anything about it. I went in and I got to watch a movie, you have to lay super still. The first part is was about 45 minutes then the nurse took me out and had to put in this medicine so I made my veins change colors it felt like water was running down my arm. The whole first MRI I had took about 1 and 30 minutes. Then I had to go back on September 25th so we could read the MRI, that is the day I get diagnosed with Chiari Malformation type 1. They told me that they wanted to check up on it within the next 4 months because with all of the lights and things they weren’t sure if they were getting any accurate reading, fast forward 4 months to February 13th and I went back for my checkup and I went and did a test, then I went and met with doctor Cassidy she looked a little worried and that made me a little nervous, at the end of my appointment she looked at my mom and then looked at me, she said that my swelling had gone up a lot and that she needed to call my neurologist as soon a we leave. That made me really upset and nervous. She also threw out the idea of the decompression surgery. When I left the hospital I was really scared and upset. They scheduled an MRI for the next Tuesday and I also have to go see my neurologist. I went to the MRI and i wasn’t nervous because i felt that I wasn’t going to have surgery, after the MRI we had to wait like 2 hours for the next appointment with the neurosurgeon. When we went to the appointment and she came in and told us that she wanted to do surgery, i then got really scared and upset. She went though the whole surgery. Then they called my mom and told us that the surgery was in 2 weeks. So then a week later I started to prepare my self. Then on March 9th my mom texted me when I was in La and she asked to call me. I asked Mrs. Reed and then I went to called her when I answered the phone she told me that you doctor called and that I could wait three months for my surgery. I was soooo excited. Then later that week i was starting to get really bad headaches. So my mom called and made me an appointment for April 15th.
