Autour du potager, ce projet qui nous tient tant à cœur, nous partageons un moment convivial : on goûte, on rit, on se dépense et on profite de l’air frais. La séance a aussi été l’occasion d’écouter notre apiculteur, qui nous a expliqué les dangers des frelons et montré son savoir-faire de chasseur passionné.

Un vrai plaisir de se retrouver tous ensemble au jardin !

Tomatoes galore, juicy blackberries, crisp apples and sweet raspberries… What a wonderful harvest to start the year!

Around the vegetable patch, a project so dear to our hearts, we shared a convivial moment: we tasted, laughed, worked up a sweat and enjoyed the fresh air. The session was also an opportunity to listen to our beekeeper, who explained the dangers of hornets and demonstrated his expertise as a passionate hunter.

It was a real pleasure to get together in the garden!

Accueillis par Lyderic Bernard, un apiculteur passionné, les élèves ont observé et participé à l’ouverture des cadres de cire, puis à l’utilisation de l’extracteur qui libère le miel doré. La dégustation finale a suscité beaucoup d’enthousiasme : chacun a pu savourer le miel fraîchement récolté, véritable fruit du travail collectif des abeilles.

Today, the pupils in the Nature class had the chance to enjoy a unique experience by visiting the Mess Cockerill apiary in Hautmont.

Welcomed by Lydéric Bernard, a passionate beekeeper, the pupils watched and helped to open the honeycomb frames, and then saw how the extractor is used to release the golden honey. The tasting session at the end was met with great enthusiasm: everyone was able to savour the freshly harvested honey, the true fruit of the bees’ collective labour.

A big thank you to Lydéric Bernard for his warm welcome and kindness, and to Mrs Martinache for organising the trip.🐝

This Thursday, the school vegetable garden was buzzing with activity! The pupils, guided by our market gardener Greg, rolled up their sleeves to carefully prepare their growing beds. Each team put their heart and soul and all their creativity into the task, with one goal in mind: to win the competition for the best-looking growing bed. The pupils also had the chance to open the school’s beehive to check on the colony. To round off this lovely session, it was time for a treat: a honey tasting, some of which came from last week’s harvest. A sweet moment of sharing that delighted young and old alike.

Accompagnés de Mme Despriet, Mme Cascarino, Mme Verbaere, Mr Dubie, Henry Gregory Michel et les parents, nous avons parcouru la plage pour ramasser les déchets d’origine anthropique (c’est-à-dire produits ou abandonnés par l’homme) qui se trouvaient dans la laisse de mer. Plastiques, canettes, morceaux de filets de pêche ou encore emballages : tous ces déchets nuisent aux écosystèmes marins et côtiers.

Au-delà du ramassage, cette action nous a permis de mieux comprendre l’importance de préserver les milieux naturels et de réfléchir à nos propres gestes au quotidien. Nous avons constaté que, même dans des paysages magnifiques comme la côte d’Opale, la pollution est présente et demande la mobilisation de tous.🙏

As part of our educational trip to the Opal Coast, we took part in a community and environmental initiative on the beach between Blériot and Calais. This activity was part of World Cleanup Day.

Accompanied by Mrs Despriet, Mrs Cascarino, Mrs Verbaere, Mr Dubie, Gregory and parents, we walked along the beach to collect man-made waste (i.e. items produced or discarded by humans) found in the surf zone. Plastics, cans, pieces of fishing nets and packaging: all this rubbish harms marine and coastal ecosystems.

Beyond the clean-up itself, this initiative helped us better understand the importance of preserving natural environments and reflect on our own daily actions. We realised that, even in magnificent landscapes such as the Opale Coast, pollution is present and requires everyone’s involvement.🙏

Thank you to Class 4 Opa for their efforts.

No mashed potatoes on the menu, unfortunately! But never mind: we’re saving our precious spuds to plant again next year. With a bit of luck, they’ll come back in droves! 👨‍🌾✨

Today saw the results of the competition for the best vegetable patch in the school garden.

This competition was organised by their teachers, Mr Dubie and Mrs Cartieaux, to recognise the pupils’ hard work, encourage them to take responsibility, and give them the chance to showcase their achievements to the school community.

Congratulations to our young gardeners! They are very proud and happy to have shown you their garden and to share the fruits of their labour with you.

The prize-giving ceremony took place in the presence of parents from the Maupassant Community Centre and the market gardener, and the prizes were presented by Mrs Messaoudene, Mrs Pruvost and Mrs Martinache.

Aujourd’hui, le potager a connu une belle effervescence ! Petits et grands se sont retroussés les manches pour entretenir ce coin de verdure partagé.

Au programme : ramassage des pommes et récolte des tomates bien mûres, prélèvement minutieux des graines de basilic, tournesol de aneth et de blette pour préparer les semis de la prochaine saison. Les jardiniers en herbe ont également procédé au grelinage et à l’amendement des planches, pour aérer la terre et la nourrir avant l’hiver.

Les semis ont été éclaircis avec soin, et les feuilles mortes ramassées pour garder le potager propre et accueillant.

Entre la maison de quartier et les élèves, tout le monde a mis la main à la pâte : une belle occasion d’apprendre, de partager et de profiter ensemble des joies du jardinage.😁

A lovely session of work in the vegetable garden 🌱🍎

Today, the vegetable garden was buzzing with activity! Young and old alike rolled up their sleeves to tend to this shared patch of greenery.

On the agenda: picking apples and harvesting ripe tomatoes, carefully collecting basil, sunflower, dill and Swiss chard seeds to prepare for next season’s sowing. The budding gardeners also carried out deep tilling and amended the beds to aerate the soil and nourish it before winter.

The seedlings were carefully thinned out, and the fallen leaves were collected to keep the vegetable patch clean and inviting.

Between the community centre and the pupils, everyone pitched in: a wonderful opportunity to learn, share and enjoy the joys of gardening together.😁

L’objectif : préparer de délicieuses recettes saines et naturelles, à base de produits de saison et d’ingrédients simples tels que les flocons d’avoine, la farine d’épeautre, le sarrasin ou encore le miel...pour préparer le goûter.

Au-delà du plaisir gustatif, cette activité a permis aux enfants et aux adultes de partager un moment convivial, d’en apprendre davantage sur les bienfaits d’une alimentation équilibrée, et de renforcer les liens entre le collège et la mdq Maupassant.

This Thursday, the nature class enjoyed a day all about sharing and good food! In partnership with Maupassant neighbourhood center, the nature class pupils, their teachers and several parents came together for six cooking workshops to discover the joy of cooking in a different way.

The aim: to prepare delicious, healthy and natural recipes using seasonal produce and simple ingredients such as oats, spelt flour, buckwheat and honey... to make an afternoon snack.

Beyond the culinary enjoyment, this activity allowed children and adults to share a convivial moment, learn more about the benefits of a balanced diet, and strengthen the ties between the school and the Maupassant NC.

Dans le cadre d’Octobre Rose, mois de sensibilisation au cancer du sein, les élèves de la classe Nature ont pris part au Challenge Photo Boobs organisé par la mdq Maupassant, une activité à la fois ludique et porteuse de sens.

Autour d’un moment convivial, entre rires, créativité et bonne humeur, les participants ont su faire passer un message fort :

👉 Sensibiliser aux risques liés au cancer du sein

👉 Rappeler l’importance du dépistage à tout âge

👉 Encourager le dialogue et briser les tabous autour de la santé

As part of Pink October, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, pupils from the Nature class took part in the Boobs Photo Challenge organised by the Maupassant NC, an activity that was both fun and meaningful.

In a friendly atmosphere filled with laughter, creativity and good humour, the participants successfully conveyed a powerful message:

👉 Raising awareness of the risks associated with breast cancer

👉 Highlighting the importance of screening at all ages

👉 Encouraging dialogue and breaking down taboos surrounding health

Aujourd’hui, les élèves de la classe nature ont mis les mains dans la terre pour apprendre une nouvelle technique de jardinage : le bouturage.
Après avoir visionné plusieurs tutoriels pour comprendre les différentes étapes de cette méthode de multiplication des plantes, chacun a pu choisir dans le jardin l’espèce qu’il souhaitait reproduire.

Framboisiers, groseilliers, sauge, herbe à curry, verveine citronnée, ou encore lavande… les choix ne manquaient pas ! Munis de sécateurs et d’un peu de patience, les jeunes jardiniers ont soigneusement prélevé leurs boutures avant de les replanter.

Il ne reste plus maintenant qu’à attendre le printemps pour voir si leurs boutures ont pris racine. Un beau projet qui mêle observation, expérimentation et respect de la nature !

Today, the pupils in the nature class got their hands dirty to learn a new gardening technique: taking cuttings.

After watching several tutorials to understand the different stages of this method of propagating plants, everyone was able to choose the plant they wanted to propagate from the garden.

Raspberry bushes, redcurrant bushes, sage, curry leaves, lemon verbena, or even lavender… there was no shortage of choices! Armed with secateurs and a little patience, the young gardeners carefully took their cuttings before replanting them.

Now all that remains is to wait until spring to see if their cuttings have taken root. A wonderful project that combines observation, experimentation and respect for nature!

Cet après-midi, les élèves de la Classe Nature ont participé au concours interne “Faites de la soupe !” ( 2ème edition), accompagnés des mamans de la Maison de Quartier Maupassant.

Leur mission : préparer la meilleure soupe à partir de légumes de saison avec quelques récoltes du potager.

Dans les ateliers HAS, l’ambiance était conviviale : épluchage, découpe, parfums de légumes et esprit d’équipe étaient au rendez-vous.

Après dégustation, le jury a désigné les gagnantes :

Leur soupe a conquis tout le monde!🥦

This afternoon, the pupils from the Nature Class took part in the in-house “Make Some Soup!” competition (2nd edition), accompanied by mums from the Maupassant Community Centre.

Their task: to prepare the best soup using seasonal vegetables, including some from the vegetable patch.

In the HAS workshops, the atmosphere was friendly: peeling, chopping, the aroma of vegetables and team spirit were all in full swing.

After tasting the soups, the jury announced the winners:

Their soup won everyone over!🥦

Well done to all the participants for their hard work and enthusiasm!👏

À cette occasion, nous avons célébré les anniversaires des cinq élèves nés au mois de décembre, dans une ambiance conviviale et chaleureuse🎂🍬.

The nature class is also a chance to bond.🎉

We took the opportunity to celebrate the birthdays of the five pupils born in December, in a warm and friendly atmosphere🎂🍬.

Today, the outdoor science lesson took the form of a craft workshop. The pupils sanded and oiled birdhouses and future bird feeders for the garden with linseed oil. They also sawed planks to make herbariums. The day ended on a cheerful note with Mathias’s birthday party. 🎉🌿

Second craft session! The birdhouses have had a second coat of linseed oil and the herbariums have been cut out.💪

Les garçons sont sortis pour accrocher les mangeoires à oiseaux et ont commencé à installer la structure autour de l’arbre afin de réaliser un plessis.

Pendant ce temps, les filles sont restées en classe pour poursuivre la réalisation de leurs herbiers.

Today, our nature class was split into two groups.

The boys went outside to hang up the bird feeders and started setting up the framework around the tree to create a wattle fence.

Meanwhile, the girls stayed in the classroom to continue working on their herbariums.

This Thursday, the Maupassant Community Centre hosted an intergenerational exchange between local adults, pupils from the nature class at Pierre de Ronsard Secondary School, and the pupils’ parents.

✨️Aim: To share our talents!

This afternoon once again demonstrated that the Maupassant Community Centre is a place for exchange, knowledge-sharing and solidarity between generations.💜

It was also an opportunity to catch up with our favourite market gardener, Grégory Henry, talk about the garden again🥦🍎 and re-motivate the team 😊

Avec les premiers rayons du soleil et les bourgeons qui pointent, le jardin s’éveille enfin ! Après une pause hivernale bien méritée, c’est le moment idéal pour replanter, semer et innover. Les abeilles bourdonnent, les buttes s’enrichissent, et les projets reprennent vie : arches en osier, dôme en construction, plessis autour de l'arbre...

Spring is on its way, and it’s time to get back to work!

With the first rays of sunshine and buds beginning to appear, the garden is finally coming to life! After a well-deserved winter break, now is the perfect time to replant, sow and try something new. The bees are buzzing, the beds are being enriched, and projects are coming back to life: wicker arches, a dome under construction, wattle fencing around the tree...

Après 2 jours d'épreuves communes, la classe nature décompresse et retrouve le jardin.⚘️☘️

Planting strawberry plants, starting the seedlings, using the grelinette, mulching, planting an apple tree... a mad hour!

The gardening tool that hardly anyone knows about. The same aeration results. Zero damage to plants.

Aujourd’hui, la maison de quartier a organisé une belle chasse à l’œuf dans les jardins, réunissant adultes du quartier et enfants de la classe nature 🌿🥚

Les habitants, venus très nombreux, ont ainsi pu découvrir le jardin du collège tout en partageant un moment convivial et plein de bonne humeur avec les enfants.

Cet agréable événement s’est clôturé par un goûter bien mérité 🍪

Today, the community centre organised a lovely egg hunt in the gardens, bringing together local adults and children from the nature class 🌿🥚

The residents, who turned out in large numbers, were able to explore the school grounds whilst enjoying a friendly, cheerful time with the children.

This lovely event ended with a well-deserved snack 🍪

Entre plantations, semis et rempotage, le programme était bien chargé… une étape essentielle qui lance officiellement la saison sous un beau soleil.

Between planting, sowing and repotting, it was a busy schedule… a key milestone that officially kicks off the season under a beautiful sunny sky.

Accueillis par notre établissement partenaire, l'Istituto Comprensivo Guido Pitocco à Castelnuovo di Porto (au nord de Rome), les collégiens ont immédiatement intégré des ateliers de travail collaboratifs. Réunis en binômes franco-italiens, ils ont partagé des activités autour du jardinage et de la science, surmontant rapidement la barrière du langage. La journée s'est complétée par une découverte du patrimoine historique local.

L'axe environnemental s'est poursuivi au cœur du parc régional de Veio. Accompagnés par des guides spécialisés, les élèves ont mené des observations sur la biodiversité et le relevé de traces de la faune sauvage, notamment du loup.

Le séjour a également inclus une découverte de Rome, combinant l'étude des monuments historiques et la visite de parcs floraux.

Parallèlement, cette mobilité Erasmus+ a constitué une opportunité majeure de développement professionnel. Les enseignants français ont partagé leurs pratiques pédagogiques avec leurs collègues italiens, découvrant le fonctionnement des cours au sein du système éducatif italien afin d'enrichir leurs propres approches méthodologiques.

Pour de nombreux collégiens, ce voyage représentait un véritable baptême du feu logistique : il s'agissait en effet de leur première expérience en avion, en train et en métro. Si l'idée de se retrouver seul au sein d'une famille italienne pouvait impressionner au début, l'accueil exceptionnel et la bienveillance des familles hôtes ont immédiatement dissipé les appréhensions. Les enfants sont repartis le cœur léger, avec des souvenirs inoubliables et des liens d'amitié déjà solidement noués.

Le projet entrera bientôt dans sa seconde phase : du 24 au 30 mai, le collège Ronsard aura le plaisir de recevoir à son tour la délégation italienne. Toute la communauté éducative a hâte de leur présenter notre potager, notre établissement et notre patrimoine régional !

From the 10th to the 15th of May 2026, pupils from the Nature Class at Ronsard Secondary School took part in a cultural and linguistic immersion trip to Italy as part of the European Erasmus programme. Centred on the theme ‘Let’s garden together’, this project showcased the environmental skills of the Nature Class pupils ahead of the upcoming visit from their Italian counterparts.

Welcomed by our partner school, the Istituto Comprensivo Guido Pitocco in Castelnuovo di Porto (north of Rome), the pupils immediately joined collaborative workshops. Paired in Franco-Italian groups, they took part in gardening and science activities, quickly overcoming the language barrier. The day concluded with an exploration of the local historical heritage.

The environmental theme continued in the heart of the Veio Regional Park. Accompanied by specialist guides, the pupils observed biodiversity and recorded traces of wildlife, particularly wolves.

The trip also included a tour of Rome, combining the study of historic monuments with visits to floral parks.

At the same time, this Erasmus+ exchange provided a major opportunity for professional development. The French teachers shared their teaching practices with their Italian colleagues, learning how lessons are conducted within the Italian education system in order to enrich their own methodological approaches.

For many secondary school pupils, this trip was a real logistical baptism of fire: it was, in fact, their first experience of travelling by plane, train and underground. Whilst the idea of finding themselves alone with an Italian family might have been daunting at first, the exceptional welcome and kindness of the host families immediately dispelled any apprehensions. The children returned home with a spring in their step, carrying unforgettable memories and friendships already firmly forged.

The project will soon enter its second phase: from the 24th to the 30th of May, Ronsard School will in turn have the pleasure of welcoming the Italian delegation. The whole school community is looking forward to showing them our vegetable garden, our school and our regional heritage!

​Pour l'occasion, nous avons eu le plaisir d'accueillir notre maraîcher, les bras chargés de trésors verts. Il est arrivé avec une magnifique variété de jeunes plants prêts à s'épanouir dans notre jardin : courges, salades, haricots, blettes, fleurs....​Le potager est maintenant magnifiquement métamorphosé. Un immense merci à notre maraîcher Greg!

After weeks of waiting for it, the sun has finally made a grand return! And it arrived just in time for our gardening session.

​For the occasion, we had the pleasure of welcoming our market gardener, his arms laden with green treasures. He arrived with a magnificent variety of young plants ready to flourish in our garden: squash, lettuces, beans, Swiss chard, flowers...​The vegetable patch has now been beautifully transformed. A huge thank you to our market gardener Greg!

​Entre la beauté des plantes et la sérénité du lieu, la magie a totalement opéré. Un immense merci à la Maison du Bocage pour son accueil toujours aussi admirable et chaleureux.

​C'est certain, nous reviendrons l'année prochaine !

Today, the pupils from the nature class, accompanied by their Italian pen pals, had the chance to explore the magnificent Sains-du-Nord Botanical Garden 🌸🇮🇹.

​Between the beauty of the plants and the serenity of the place, the magic was truly in full swing. A huge thank you to the Maison du Bocage for their ever-admirable and warm welcome.

​We’ll definitely be back next year!

During yesterday’s session, the Italian pupils took the ‘Let’s garden together’ project to the next level by getting their hands properly in the soil for the first time. Despite the intense heat, they threw themselves enthusiastically into the various gardening activities.

Accompanied by our market gardener Greg, the children received valuable advice on the essential skills of gardening. Greg captivated his young audience with his impressive command of Italian, making it easier for everyone to communicate and understand one another. Thank you, Greg, and thank you to the nature class for their dedication. 🌱

Au-delà du travail accompli, ce fut surtout un très beau moment de partage. Les échanges allaient bon train, les sourires étaient au rendez-vous et chacun a pris plaisir à contribuer à ce projet collectif.😊

Ces séances au jardin sont de véritables moments de convivialité, d'apprentissage et de coopération. On en redemande !

Alors, pour une fois : merci la pluie, qui n'a pas réussi à entamer la bonne humeur de nos jardiniers du jour. 🌱😊

🌧 Despite a few showers, everyone found something to do: some bravely cut back the brambles, whilst others planted pumpkins, Swiss chard and tomatoes. Meanwhile, others were mulching the plants or watering them in the greenhouse...

Beyond the work we got done, it was above all a wonderful time spent together. Conversations flowed freely, smiles were everywhere, and everyone enjoyed contributing to this collective project.😊

These sessions in the garden are genuine moments of camaraderie, learning and cooperation. We’re keen for more!

So, for once: thank you to the rain, which didn’t manage to dampen the spirits of our gardeners for the day. 🌱😊

Pierre de Ronsard, Hautmont is proud to have won one of the 12 prizes awarded at the 2026 Coupe de France du Potager. Out of nearly 61 participating schools, our project was awarded the biodiversity prize, ‘La Biodiversité, c’est Carré’. This award recognises the work carried out throughout the year by the pupils in the nature class and their commitment to preserving biodiversity.

Nous sommes très fiers d’annoncer que notre établissement a remporté l’un des 12 prix décernés lors de la Coupe du Monde du Potager, dans la catégorie Collège.

Cette compétition a réuni des participants de 16 pays représentés à travers le monde, mettant en lumière des projets éducatifs et environnementaux inspirants autour du jardinage et de l’alimentation durable.

Cette distinction récompense l’engagement, le travail et la passion de nos élèves au sein de la Classe Nature, qui s’investissent chaque jour dans notre projet de potager pédagogique.

👏 Félicitations à tous les élèves, enseignants et partenaires qui contribuent à faire vivre cette belle aventure. C’est une immense fierté pour notre collège et une nouvelle reconnaissance du travail accompli !

We are very proud to announce that our school has won one of the 12 prizes awarded at the World Vegetable Garden Cup, in the Secondary School category.

This competition brought together participants from 16 countries around the world, showcasing inspiring educational and environmental projects centred on gardening and sustainable food.

This award recognises the commitment, hard work and passion of our pupils in the Nature Class, who dedicate themselves every day to our educational vegetable garden project.

👏 Congratulations to all the pupils, teachers and partners who help bring this wonderful adventure to life. It is a source of immense pride for our secondary school and further recognition of the work we have achieved!

With the holidays just round the corner and the heatwave in full swing, we’re really enjoying the raspberries from the garden😋

Toute l'équipe du potager du collège Ronsard adresse un immense merci à Éclosion de Céline, fleuriste à Ferriere la grande, pour son généreux don de fleurs.

Ces fleurs, un peu fatiguées après leur passage en boutique, vont désormais trouver une seconde vie dans notre potager. Avec un peu de soin, de l'eau et beaucoup d'attention, elles reprendront certainement des couleurs et embelliront notre espace de jardinage.

Ce beau geste est aussi une belle façon de lutter contre le gaspillage tout en montrant que les petits commerçants de proximité ont un grand cœur. Leur générosité contribue à faire vivre des projets pédagogiques et à sensibiliser les élèves au respect de la nature et à l'importance du réemploi.

The whole team at the Ronsard Secondary School vegetable garden would like to extend a huge thank you to Éclosion de Céline, a florist in Ferrière-la-Grande, for her generous donation of flowers.

These flowers, looking a little tired after their time in the shop, will now find a new lease of life in our vegetable garden. With a little care, water and plenty of attention, they will no doubt regain their colour and brighten up our gardening area.

This kind gesture is also a wonderful way to combat waste, whilst showing that local small businesses have a big heart. Their generosity helps to support educational projects and raise pupils’ awareness of respect for nature and the importance of reusing items.
