Fungus gnats are gnats that have a short life and mainly target indoor plants. They’re caused by overwatering, which provides a breeding ground for them. They are also attracted to other moist areas which can include compost bins, rotting produce, or even drains. They’re harmful to plants because their larvae can eat roots or fungi in the soil, making the plants not grow or cause yellow discoloration.

To prevent them, avoid over watering, use good drainage, or higher quality soil. To treat them, you can use sticky traps, a diluted hydrogen peroxide to kill the larvae in the soil, and get rid of dead leaves where the gnats lay their eggs.
