Over the years, Finland has remained relatively the same
shape. The borders are the same ever since Finland was granted autonomy and
became its own country in 1917.

Finland has a parliamentary democracy with Parliament acting
as the legislative power. The cabinet acts as the executive power with the Prime
minister acting as the head of government and the president acting as the head
of state. In Finland, there are no existing tensions occurring between the
federal and local governments. In Finland, there have been cases of devolution. Finland’s
devolution comes from a civic awareness and a democratic spirit. For example, the
Finnish government has chosen to give significant autonomy to the Aldan Island
that is home to a group of people speaking the minority language, Swedish.

and was based upon the Scandinavian cross. The colors of the flag, blue and
white, represent the lakes and snow of the country.

long and relatively thin and stretched out. The bottom half of the country is
more of the shape of a compact state. Finland is experiencing problems due to

The boundaries of Finland are logically placed in relation to the physical landscape of Finland. The borders do not bisect any of the main rivers or lakes of Finland causing water disputes to be kept to a minimum.
