         <description><![CDATA[<div>Author/Illustrator: Virginia Lee Burton<br>Genre: Picture Book<br>Reading Level: K-2<br>Summary:&nbsp; This story is about a little house that was built in the country and loves its view.&nbsp; It loves watching the children play, the trees change with the seasons, and the stars at night.&nbsp; However, it always wished what it would be like to live in the city.&nbsp; Then one day the country the house lives in starts to become a city, and before the house knows it the country is completely gone.&nbsp; The house can no longer see the seasons change or the starts at night because of the bright city lights, and it begins to really miss the country.&nbsp; Then one day it is moved back to the country and never again wished what the city is like.<br>Interdisciplinary Connections:<br>Science: The students would focus on the trees and how they change with each season.&nbsp; They would discover why the trees change in each season, and all of the different parts of a tree.&nbsp;<br>Social Studies: After reading this story the students would discuss the different types of environments such as the rural, suburban, and urban communities.  They would make a Venn Diagram showing the similarities and differences between the three. </div>]]></description>

His grandpa refuses to shoot a bear, and so one day the little boy decides he will do it.  However, when he goes out searching he meets a baby cub and they become best friends.  He brings the bear back home for a bit, and the bear starts to grow and make a mess out of their house as well as the neighbors.  The little boy is told he has to bring him back to the woods, and when he does they get trapped in a bear trap.  The trap was from zoo keepers who wanted to bring a bear to the zoo.  They then bring this bear to the zoo, and the little boy is welcomed to visit anytime.<br>Uses:</div>]]></description>

After waiting for a very long time he decides to take an adventure to the real world to look for his friend. When getting the the real world he looks around got his friend but cannot find them. It isn't until the end when his real friend comes to find him and gives him the name Beekle.<br>Interdisciplinary Connections:<br>Language Arts:  The students would read this story and then discuss what an adjective is.  They would think of different adjectives they think Beekle was looking for in his friend.  The students would then think of adjectives that they like to describe their friends.<br>Social Studies: The students would then learn about different cultures.  They would lear that different cultures do different activities for fun.  They would be assigned o pick a country and look to see what children their age do for fun in this country.</div>]]></description>

They can't decide who's bone it should be, so they go around and ask other people for advice.  They continue to not hear the answer they are looking for so they continue on.  At last they come across another dog and ask him for advice.  This dog then tries to steal the bone and run away, the two dogs work together to catch him and get the bone back.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Author/Illustrator: Arthur Ransome&nbsp;<br>Genre: Picture Book<br>Reading Level: 3-5<br>Summary: This story is about a man who wanted a flying ship, and he said whoever could get him one could marry his daughter the princess.  There was a 'fool' who was a peasant, who really wanted to marry the princess,  so he set out to make a flying ship when he meets an old man that helps him.  The fool then sets out to go deliver this ship and brings along with him seven other men who had some very unique talents.  When they get to the Czar, he realizes the fool is just a peasant.  Although he wants the flying ship, he does not want his daughter marrying a fool.  He then gives the fool five tasks that he believed were impossible, and if the fool could complete them he could marry his daughter.  The men the fool brought with him then used their very unique talents and they were able to all complete the tasks.  The fool and the princess were then able to marry each other and they fell in love.<br>Uses:</div>]]></description>

They decide to go to the park for some excitement when they come across a board game under a tree. They take the game home and start to play. It isn't too long until they realize that every spot they land on comes to life. Before they know it there are monkeys, lions, snakes, volcanoes, and more all running around in their house. The little girl finally wins the game, yells "Jumanji", and everything disappears. They are able to clean the house just in time for the parents to return.&nbsp;<br>Interdisciplinary connections:<br>Science: The students will read this story and then talk about habitats.&nbsp; They would learn what a habitat is and how different animals have different habitats.&nbsp; The students would pick their favorite animal and find what habitat they live in, and then share it with their class.<br>English:&nbsp; Another thing the students would learn with this book would be personification.&nbsp; They would talk about&nbsp;what personification is, and create a blabberize activity which includes making an animal talk.</div>]]></description>

Officer does not realize this until he sees it on TV.  He then says he is never going to give another presentation because all of the students only care about is Gloria. She tries everything she can to get to it, like jumping as high as she could, climbing a tree, etc . until she realizes she can't reach it. She then sees the reflection of the moon in the pond and thinks it is an even bigger glass of milk so she jumps into it, only to be disappointed once again. She then heads home where she will find warmth and rest, when upon turning home there is an actual bowl of milk on her the front step.<br>Interdisciplinary Connections:<br>Science: The students would read this story and then talk about the solar system.&nbsp; We would talk about the different planets and how they all rotate.&nbsp; They would learn the reason behind why there are full moons only on some nights.<br>Math: The students would next use this story to talk about math and symmetry.  We would use the moon from the story to show that if you drew a line down the middle it is symmetrical.  They would then go on to test the symmetry of other shapes.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Author/Illustrator Simms Taback<br>Genre: Picture Book<br>Reading Level: K-2<br>Summary: This story is about a man who starts off with an overcoat and wears it until it becomes old and worn. When he can no longer wear it as an overcoat he then uses that material to make a jacket. After the jacket becomes too old to wear, he makes a vest. he continues to do this until in the end all he has left is a button from the fabric. One day he looses the button and realizes he has nothing left. He then decides to write a story about this to show that you can always make something out of nothing.<br>Interdisciplinary Connections:<br>Math: I would read this story with my class and then talk to them about fractions.  We would talk about how the man took fractions of the clothing he had and made something new from it.  The students would then be given a fraction book where they would be able to complete simple problems.<br>Language Arts: I would then talk to my students about the sequencing of events. We would talk about how the man first had the overcoat, then the jacket, and so forth.   </div>]]></description>

Some uses that are mentioned are those such as the shade and apples the provide, their shade, leaves, swinging from them, etc. At the end of the story is show a child planting a tree.<br>Interdisciplinary Connections:<br>Science: The students in this class will read this story and then talk about all of the different uses of a tree.&nbsp; They would talk about how the trees change with each season, and with each season comes new uses of the trees.<br>Language Arts:<br>After talking about the different roles trees play, the students would be instructed to think of three to five words that describe a tree in each season.  They would then make a word could using these words.</div>]]></description>
