The way in which we can pick and choose the way in which we receive information and more importantly from whom, makes us particularly susceptible to echo chambers and that can be troubling. When we don't challenge our own ideas and just listen to sources that parrot our exact talking points, these ideas are very narrow and not very bright, seeing as how we can only improve our ideas by challenging them.

When we submit ourselves to our own echo chamber, we also mischaracterize the opposing points of view and don't understand why said points of view even exist. A great example of this would be the current political divide that takes place around Trump, when both sides, fed by their echo chamber, believe the other side to just be racist, sexist, and xenophobic (in the Trump haters' point of view), or ignorant, treasonous, childish, and un-American (in the Trump supporters' point of view).

Echo chambers caused by the way in which we can choose who to get our information from can cause rampant misconception and mischaracterization of the other side of the argument and leads people to very dogmatic. When up to our choice, humans usually choose to listen to what they want to hear, rather than what they need to hear, and this can lead to even more division and hatred.

The primary engine on shaping an individual's perception of an argument is usually the side they're presented with first, after all, is this fight against ignorance which drives people with uncertainty into a forum to begin with. The deeper our reliance/commodity into lacking to understand facts and perspectives from the other side is, the more subject we become to be driven into the interests of particular media groups and non-objective behavior.

Usually indisputable scientific facts may be perceived to be the exempt showcase of such cases, but they’re lots of ways in which high-end enterprises can buy reliant crediencials to deceive and manipulate sensitive subjects from a political perspective that ain’t necessarily related to it, after all, is usually in these types of affairs that media’s job is not to enforce interest-backed beliefs, but to create skepticism and division within a certain rightfully informed group of people that fuels arrogance and will to “stand out”. The best way to keep yourself out from misinformation, is to be open to new perspectives and reliant on multiple sources, is where we find discrepancies, that we know there may be interests fueling it.

The role of communication and media in shaping the perception of people about issues in global politics is to induce a point of view into a group of people.
It is curious how news change and create stories of a one event to make people believe what they want.
For example: in Mexico the media during the elections, transmited a bunch of political spots in which the political parties expose their proposals to the people. The problem I perceive is that the spots were threats between parties just to show who had the favoritism of people.
Famous people also use communication and the media to expose their political ideas and try to convince their fandom. Belinda is a good example of this, also during mexican elections this artist made public her favorite candidate on facebook, twitter, instagram and other social media. Generating different reactions among people.

Nowadays, with the arrival of globalisation and social media, communication and media have gained an influence over the people never seen before in the history of humanity. Being so rapidly spread and having a global reach, everyone can know exactly what happened anywhere in the world in a question of minutes. However, this has a drawback: anyone can submit an article into the internet and be read by thousands, meaning that they can lie or express a point of view about a global political issue without supporting her arguments nor specifying that it is subjective and be believed by the readers that the articles are objective and true.
As a consequence, many political figures and movements have used social media to their advantage in order to influence or even impose a point of view over others. Thus, examples like USA’s presidential election in 2016 with Cambridge Analytica and Far-right national movements like the one led by the French candidate Marie Le Pen in the past French elections are clear evidence of how communication and social media may affect people’s perception about the political situation of their country.
Therefore, the role of communication and media in the present century has enough power to shape people’s perception of problems in global politics given that media – before the arrival of globalisation– was controlled and limited to a small sector of people which were professionals and, theoretically, always tried to deliver the news as objectively as possible to the readers. Hence, when globalisation appeared, and everyone could raise their voices on the internet, there’s been harder for the people to differentiate between an objective article and a subjective and not well-justified point of view uploaded onto a website.

The perspective we have about the world is very different and personal for everyone. When we think we know what is best for others, we are actually thinking what would be the best for us in the same situation.
This situation tends to happen also in a political level; Even when the people in power (politicians, oligarchs, religious leaders, etc) are willing execute their power in a right way, some of the decisions they make are based on personal experiences and in an specific point of view.

For example, in Arabian countries, political and religious power are strongly linked. In the majority of these countries, laws are based on the Muslim relgious text, the Coran. This type of government has had repercusions in major sectors of the population, specially the women, who had a lot more restrictions than men. People in power on these countries, like Saudi Arabia, may think the way their executing their power is right because they are following their religious principles and traditions, but, in a Western point of view, this form of ruling is wrong.

We can also say that not being tolerant and not seeing the perspective of others about a situation, strenghtens the biased way of thinking and decision making of the people about what is the best for others.

News are meant to be presented with an objective point of view. Even though, in today's world the media tends to change information for another that seems more convenient for a certain group of people in power to stay in power. In other words, the information the people receives is filtered to trigger specific responses from them. When talking about filtering it is important to mention how news are being omitted because they can form a negative idea of the groups mentioned before. As well, we can talk about the deviation of attention towards nonimportant matters such as sports to support the feeling of comformity. The creation of fake news is also a matter it is important to pay attention to, since they are specifically designed to shape people's thinking towards a topic.

All in all, most of the information in the media is biased, this is the reason why it is crucial to do an individual research about the topic of interest, since one source can present a story from one point of view and others with another.

Our opinions are not actually ours, not completely at least, we just take many aspects from the world, shape an idea, and in our minds we take it as if it's original from our mind, but it's just actually a mixture of already existing things.
When we don't like something, we tend to discuss about it with many people, mostly friends and family, so if someone of them offers a better idea, a solution to what our discussion is, we will not adopt it just like that, because we deeply know that it is just their opinion, backuped with their personal experiences, but as we have not lived the sane we just appreciate the comment and move on, and until we live a similar situation is when we actually look at that idea we were offered.
It's the same when we advice, we just look past to our personal experiences and tell up an idea that worked for us in that situation, we adopt it as ours because it's our experience, and we assume that the other will adopt it because it worked for you.
And this just how the mind works, it's just a mixture of stolen ideas. Our minds just take the ideas we hear or see from our world, apply them to our reality, personalize them and we set them as our ideas while it's likey that those ideas were just something you heard from someone around or saw a post on the internet or heard a song from the radio.
It's like the innovation of products, all aspects are implemented from already existing things and proccesses, but the patents affirm that it's a new thing created from someone.

The same thing happends with politics and anything that has to do with the follow of a leader. For politicians, it is clear that they talk as if they know, wheather they do know or not thay have to at least pretend. They talk about what's better for the country and the people, and as many of the population doesn't really know, they have not studied as much as a politician has studied economics for example, most tend to follow the one with more studied. For example, a politician telling the people that implementing neoliberalism is the key because it has worked for European nations; some may just accept as it sound good it has already worked out, while others may say they are not a European nation.

People tend to just tell or share knowledge only from what they have experienced, from what has worked out for them in the past. And because our mindset is just a bank of common ideas (like the "tell who are you with, and I'll you who you are), if someone does make an accurate comment or advice that is usefull or explains something for a great amount of people, that's when a leader is born: someone explains something shared with many people that associate personal experience with the leader comment, so they will believe the guy knows about it so they will ask for more advice from him, to follow him as he seems to know very much about what he is talking; it is preferable that the guy has a very well education back track to sustain and make believable the ideas exposed.

Carlos Pazos

Communication and media are very important when shaping people's perception. How news and media portrait a country will impact the way in which people see that country without having being there. If they present the country as a violent one, people will not go there. For example,
many countries portray Mexico as a very insecure and violent country. And this affects how people perceive the general image of Mexico, and a clear evidence to support this is how tourism has decreased in the entire country. Now people avoid to come as their local news broadcaster.

In addition, social media also influences the perception of people. Nowadays, people get to know what is going on around the world due to social media. People make videos and/or photos viral, and many people as a result will see what’s happening.

As a result, communication and media are one of the most important factors that influences the perception of people around the world.

Media feeds us what we want it to feed us. Various algorithms are set in place in different social media platforms so as to analyze a users preference, and from there feed news and/or content that is relevant and congruent with it.

If a news outlet, in any shape, which a user trust displays its views, prejudices and ideologies, leaking them to be picked up, whether consciously or not by all of those who get access to their work.

This molds the perception of the public, be it for good or bad. Newspapers and news broadcasting agencies are usually the main channel of information to a seemingly ignorant public, them being the primary source to find facts and publish them, in what is broadly assumed to be a reliable fashion by the common public.

In other words, by relying in the blind trust entrusted to them by all who seek information, they can mold and shape the perspective from which news and events are seen and thus, digested. Hence, huge misconceptions are put in place, by a system that relies on intended miscommunication to tilt the scale in any way that favors the side that benefits them specifically.

Luis Ferro

3. What are the benefits and difficulties of examining political issues against the backdrop of a certain theoretical foundation or ideology?

I think that using the theories of international relations, the fundamental, as well as the critical theories, allows any person to understand and create hypotheses about the way certain countries might be understanding issues before they act. So they can pose a benefit to be able to view an issue from different perspectives, and maybe understand some reasoning to certain actions. However, if you just focus on one of these theories, for example, you could fall into a biased research, which can be a clear difficulty when trying to analyze a political issue completely.

The difficulty then, when trying to comprehend a political issue, could fall on ones capability to decide which theories of international relations to use depending on a region, a period of time, an ideology, a culture of a country. For example, if we analyze western intervention in the Middle East, and decide to use the theory of liberalism, we could say the interest of the west relies on helping build a better world and help some countries achieve freedom. On the other hand, if we use realism, we could also say that the real motivation for all the aid is a high interest over the natural resources, which would be easier to achieve if they have close relations with whatever government is in charge. This way, we can understand an issue in a more complete way.

Since media and communication started to be a big deal among humans, people followed everything that appeared on those since they were everywhere and it was difficult to not see it. Communication and media are like a brainwash for people, because they are not just for one country but in the whole world.

The perspective of each individual is often defined by the ways of knowing, since this is how they approach the world. Furthermore, everyone has a different point of view in regards of everything that is shaped by their upbringing (the values that they believe in).

This is often displayed in controversial areas such as a global politics, that is composed of many different theoretical foundations and political views such as neoliberalism, which can be polemic when discussing its effects.

This can lead people to close their minds to many solutions and perspectives which eventually results in fanatism (KKK) and is thus harmful for the society. In the world of politics individuals rely on a single solution and point of view and therefore see things as black or white, this is influenced by the ways and áreas of knowing that they feel most comfortable in, but as a result they reject the remaining theories due to a lack of understandment or political intolerance.

It is easy for people to believe that they think is right to them; is right for everyone, however the international relations and global affairs aren’t as simple as that, and can’t fit a single template in an ever-changing world.

In conclusion, it is in the nature of mankind to rely on a “single truth” and to believe that it is right for eveyone, this is merely defined by the way in which they approach knowledge and want to express it. Be that as it may, in áreas such as global politics this mindset can be harmful for the society since one single belief can’t fit such a diverse world.
