Type of speech is Issue
My attention getter: “Glitter looks super fun and harmless, right? But what if I told you that all that sparkle is actually tiny pieces of plastic that can hurt the planet?”

Thesis: I’m going to talk about how glitter which is something we usually think of as just for parties or crafts, is actually a form of microplastic and it pollutes ocean and harms animals.
One main point: When we wash glitter off our skin or throw it away, it ends up in the water where fish and other sea creatures eat it by mistake, and that plastic can even end up back in our food when we eat sea food.

For many people today, it already is. Sleep is often seen as optional, something we can cut short to get more done. It is necessary to get sleep.

One Main point: Sleep is like charging your phone, without it, our brain cant function properly. During sleep, your body repairs tissues, builds muscle, and release hormones that regulate growth and stress.

All your hard work is finally paying off, until you realize it's the first of the month and rent is due. All your bills are due on the same day and for some strange reason your car broke down and now you have to pay to get it fixed on top of everything else that will snatch your money away."

Thesis Statement: Today I will inform you on why raising the federal minimum wage is a necessity in today's society.

One Main Point: Minimum wage does not match the living wage. As we all know living in the Bay Area is one of the most expensive places in the country to live and most people are struggling to make ends meet because landlords are constantly raising rent prices and jobs are stagnant with pay raise. To combat the issue of rent increase, jobs must be on a uniformed minimum wage which will match the living wage of the Bay Area.

Type of Speech: Issue

Attention-Getter:

Almost every day all of us pass by workers who keep cities, like Oakland, bustling but are usually overlooked. City workers or security guards working downtown, in uniform, cleaning, repairing, or providing safety, but its rare that most people stop and think of the pressures they must deal with.

Thesis Statement:

Today I will inform you about the multiple daily challenges and mental strain faced by various frontline workers, sometimes in urban areas, especially those in public service and in the security sector.

One Main Point:

Frontline workers carry a greater burden than what is mentioned in a job description. One example, is a security guard working at a public location must deal with unpredictable situations and or people, manage the public’s safety, and still remain calm and maintain professionalism despite what could happen. It goes unrealized how much control emotionally and the communication skills needed to de-escalate issues before they grow into something bigger. Understanding that makes sense of what goes into making public spaces safe.

Communication style, and how we connect with others.

Main point: Studies and real-life experiences show that oldest siblings often take on more responsibilities and leadership roles, while younger siblings tend to be more outgoing and independent. For example, as the oldest in my family, i naturally become the go-to person everyone depends on. It taught me how to stay organized and calm, but also how hard it can be when people expect you to always have it together.

The energy is high, and everyone that is watching knows that something historic is going on right before them.

Thesis Statement: Today I will inform you about the huge significance and impact of the Women’s March, one of the most influential protest events in American history.

One Main Point: The Women’s March brings more attention to important social issues that effect women. For instance, protestors demand more equal pay, reproductive rights, and better protection for gender-based violence. A lot of women have had to experience inequalities in their everyday life. Whether it is from work, school, or on social media. This march serves as a good platform to make those hardships more visible and bring change.

Type of speech:

Object/Concept

Attention getter:

Have you ever looked at someone's tattoo and wondered what story lives beneath the ink? Tattoos may look like art on skin, but for many people, they're living diaries, symbols of survival, identity, and transformation.

Thesis statement:

Today I will inform you about how tattoos serve as personal storytelling tools that connect memory, meaning, and identity across cultures, communities, and life experiences.

Main point:

Tattoos are more that body art, they are visual expressions of identity and lived experience. Across cultures, they've been used to mark transitions, beliefs and belonging. An example is how Maori facial tattoos in New Zealand, also known as moko, tells the life story of a person's ancestry and social role. In another example, prison tattoos carry their own coded language of struggle and resilience. For many incarcerated individuals, tattoos become survival tools, symbols of brotherhood, faith, loss, or redemption. A small teardrop, a name, or a date might capture a moment that changed a life forever. These marks usually represent an identity reclaimed in the harshest conditions, and they can follow someone into reentry as both a reminder and a record of transformation.

Mobile devices back then had a physical keyboard attached to it , which made the viewable screen very small. Blackberry believed that following Apple's innovation was not needed as the invention of the touchscreen is just a gimmick, and that businessmen would still used their products even without a touchscreen. This led to their market share dropping almost instantly as the iPhone proved not to be just a gimmick and this is the main reason why Blackberry went bankrupt.
