I have used 'I can' statements for students to reflect on their learning. Students answer the 'I can' statements in their own words. These 'I can' statements have generally come towards the end of the unit. The next goal is to develop a way for students to self-assess more frequently on formative assessments.

In World Languages we use Essential Questions and Can Do statements. At the end of the each class period or every other day I often ask the students to reflect on what they have learned that day to be able to answer more in-depth the Essential Questions. This could be content or skills. I have also used basic tables and charts for them to track their progress.

They had very few questions after this process, saying that the self-grading answered their questions.
