The purpose of school is to help develop students gain the knowledge and skills to be successful in life. The definition of successful is different for each student but the knowledge and skills will support them. In the early years of a student’s education teachers should be the ones who decide what they learn. Students need a strong foundation in reading and math but in the middle school, high school, and college years students have more of a say in their education. My definition of curriculum is materials and knowledge students learn. There shouldn’t be a difference in curriculum for students. The curriculum can be modified or accommodation can be made to help support student needs. The curriculum/material should be the same though. My role involving curriculum is an implementing it in the classroom. I have also been asked to pilot curriculum for our district and provide feedback.

The purpose of school is for students to gain knowledge of subjects that will give them basic fundamentals, to help them challenge themselves as well as inspire them to be successful out in the world. Professional teachers, and administrators as well as the community should dictate what should be taught. Curriculum is a set of standard topics and learning outcomes that should be achieved at the conclusion of the subject. It should outline clear and precise ideas and methods to gauge learning through tests and observations. No I think every one should be exposed to the same curriculum with modifications for IEP's and special needs students. My role should be to teach the curriculum in a clear and accurate way that produces successful students at its conclusion. I think it's pretty accurate. The message of the school district seems to be that they strive for excellence throughout all grade levels and that every student is to be successful. @KipDomine
