I presented information on the importance of disabling cookies on your Mac and IOS and turning off location sharing on your smartphone through a Google slideshow and educational memes. I then asked ten people to upload a video/screenshot and description of how they disabled cookies on or turned off location services for apps and websites they use on a daily basis, on this Padlet.

I am glad i was able to give some of my family and friends the knowledge to control these settings in a time when technology plays a big part in our lives. These small changes can make a big difference in improving their online security, encouraging a sense of control, and eventually guaranteeing a more private and safe online experience as they navigate websites and apps on their smartphones.

I turned off all of these apps to never because I didn’t see a need for them. Although I did change my food apps to while using so they can see the nearest store to me.

After learning that one of my favorite online shopping websites uses cookies, I went in and read through the settings. I was able to reject all cookies after reading.

I always wondered why I got ads from places I had recently been to come up on facebook. Was able to learn how to get rid of them having access to my location now.

I went on American eagles website to turn off cookies because that’s somewhere I always find myself looking on. I was able to switch off almost all of them except for something called “strictly necessary cookies”

I turned off my location for the app VSCO, which is a photo sharing app. I didn’t see a need for an app made to share pictures to have my location all the time. -Maeve Dugan

I used the directions from the google slides in order to block all cookies from safari. I went on setting and scrolled down to the safari tab. Then toggled the button in order to turn it on.

I changed the location settings for my united airlines app to only while using. I felt that this app only needed my location for purposes like seeing my closet airport, and I did not need it having my location all the time. I enjoyed how the app gave an explanation below although.

In an effort to protect my privacy and manage the data I give, I'm turning off location sharing on Instagram. I restrict who can access my current whereabouts by disabling location services. I'm taking proactive measures to protect my personal data and feel more in control of the information I share online after reading the google slides.
