Soon after, many banks closed down across the eastern land, the stock market was in declined for short term. As a result, the panic caused nation wide economic depression. This depression lasted about 5 years and affected almost all parts of the economy. For instance, high employment, railroad industries failing, and more than 18000 companies folded these are all ways the economy was affected due to the Panic of 1873. To conclude, many Americans blamed Republicans thus giving victory to the democrats in the 1874 congressional and state elections and the nation stated losing interest in Reconstruction.

Radical Republicans worried that the South would keep African Americans from voting in future elections, to stop this from happening, Radical leaders proposed the 15th amendment. In this amendment, citizens could not be stopped from voting based on their race or color. In the year of 1870, it was ratified. But in 16 states, some African Americans could not vote because one Radical wrote, "We have no moral right to impose an obligation on one part of land which the rest will not accept." It also didn't apply to women, which made many women angry. Many of them wondered why former slaves could vote and not them, Elizabeth Cady Stanton protested against this idea.
-Ashley Luis & Jasmine Hour

Women at this time could still not vote whiched angered many white women. Most African American women however where not as anger as the white women. The 15th amendment was important because it not only allowed African Americans to vote but also it allowed most African Americans in history to be elected into public office. This amendment, like the 14th amendment it didn't include native Americans on tribal lands.

Aurora and Elsie

The Fifteen Amendment allowed people of different race, color and people of former servitude to not be stopped from voting. The amendment wasn't only in the south but everywhere and in 16 states African Americans couldn't vote. Although this amendment allowed African Americans men to vote it didn't allow women to do so. This made white women very angry because former slaves and black men could but not them.Women protested for equal rights since laws were made for immigrants and freedmen but not them.
