My concern as a parent is that if I have a change in my pick up needs that I need to fill this out everytime?! That literally 3-4 days a week! Are they ready for that paper budget increase, when I can’t get enough paper for my own classroom (let alone a printer that will print anything Wonders? Also this is an increase of rotating duties for whole sites as k-2 teacher who have duties after school in other areas won’t be able to be in 2 places at once so other teachers will not how to fill in for those duties. On top of the fact that if this is a required duty for k-2 now, then that makes it an hourly/wage issue which makes it a bargaining provlem

What if your site does not have 1 parent pick up spot? Literally some kids get in their parents' cars while it is still moving since our dismissal is so awful and so crowded. We don't have a parking lot that allows for one pick-up point, so people pick up and drop off on 2 or more streets.

I am concerned about the part that mentions the district " suggests a sibling 12 years or older" to pick up TK-2nd grade students then it goes onto say they "will not release to a student under 5th grade." This wording is confusing. There needs to be a set grade or age not either or. Like age 12 and above or 5th grade and above.

Are we supposed to walk around with a list of constantly changing emergency cards to make sure that the person picking them up that day is currently on it? I have students that are picked up by different people each day. Also, they often go to a friend's house after school and the other parent wouldn't be listed anyway. It also says "each child will be released by his/her teacher individually..." so do we form a long/ backed up line behind the gates to release them one by one? That would take a long time, and leave parents frustrated/ impatient. Additionally, we cannot be everywhere at once (After school program, bus, the gate by our classroom's hallway, one of the other 3 gates where they meet a sibling after school, in the office for students that were sent there at the end of the day, etc). I also have students with siblings in kindergarten & preschool that wait around outside, as their parents will not come until their sibling is released. I don't want to fill out CPS reports for "neglected" children just because their parents don't want to come to school twice within an hour or wait around in the traffic. I feel like after school pickup is a parenting issue, not one for teachers. They make their choices and my students are well aware where they need to be after school. I feel like we are making extra work and hassle for no necessary reason.

Also, how am I supposed to be ready for parking lot duty after school when instead of helping with the traffic flow and keeping kids safe/ out of the street, I am busy checking their names off of a list? (Also applicable for teachers with bus duty)

CH- 2nd grade

With a school our size, everyone is dismissed through our school gates near the office. Teachers would not be able to get 7 classes (k-2) through these gates to wait for parents to pick up students along with 3-8 coming through gates and parents. Our parking lot is already a disaster, not enough parking for staff and parents. Our cars have been hit and damaged by parents Parking would be hideous. Traffic would be impeded on Brookside Road which would be a problem for Stockton POlice department as well as Lincoln unified. As also stated, babysitters, different daycare drivers, brothers, sisters, and other relatives pick up kids and we would not be able to have emergency cards with us. Are we to check id’s????? Not physically possible with our after school duties

1. This is adding a MINIMUM of 50 minutes to our work week (but let's be honest, we know it'll be more than 10 per day).

2. There is absolutely no way we can deliver all our students to their destinations, PLUS the meeting place for parents (Bus pickup, Bricks for Kids, Daycare, Spanish, etc.)

3. It has been proposed that parents and the after school programs could come to our classrooms to pick up their students. Any students left after 10 minutes will have to be delivered to the office, where parents will have to park and come in to sign their child out... Our parking lot is already a mess at dismissal time. This will be potentially 150 parents that will have to park and come get their child from their classroom. Parents will start arriving 30 to 40 minutes late just to avoid that mess (if they have to come on campus anyway!)

As a group, our primary staff has been practicing the proposed dismissal procedures for a number of years, informally. K-2 teachers stay with our students at designated areas in front of our campus until they are picked up by an older sibling, parent/guardian, or sitter/relative/friend. I can understand that our students' safety is important, but adding this red tape only complicates matters. Family circumstances change constantly for many of our students; which means that parents would have to fill out paperwork every time their pick-up situation changes (car trouble, separation, playdates, etc.). It doesn't make practical sense!

I'm willing to attend a meeting after school.

I have multiple students who do a combination of two options on a regular basis. I.E. after school care Monday and Friday and Parent pick-up Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday or Bus Tuesday and Thursday and Parent Pick Up Monday, Wednesday and Friday. This needs to be taken into account on the form. Working parents cannot always be at school to pick up there child even if this is their intention in the morning. We sometimes must call grandparents or neighbors to pick up our children at the last minute. Is that ok based on the “Important:” note at the bottom. And must those people be on the emergency card? Phone calls from parents will give a verbal authorization to change the info on the card in emergency or scheduling situations? If a phone call is made to the school how will that be documented? I often get called from the office about changes and it is not written anywhere. What is the liability of that? How are teachers supposed to be in three places at once? Bus, after care and parent pick up point? Who is going to watch all of the students who are here 10 minutes after school? If teams share these duties how will each teacher insure that the other teachers know all of their kids.
